I'm one of those people who hardly ever dream, or if I do I rarely remember them.

I started taking anti-depressant med last year after all the shit went down and now I have nightmares every night and worse, I remember them when I wake.

So mood-wise I'm functioning to pre-2020 level but at the price of scary/lack of sleep.

I'm not sure what to do at this point. I don't want to stop the med cos I feel normal again. No erratic mood swings, clear head etc. But I miss dreamless sleep too. Small price to pay I guess?

Talk to your doc. Even if they don't make an adjustment to your meds, you want adverse reactions on record, and that's a hell of a reaction.

^^^^ Always. I take vicodin for all my ailments and try not to take it at night because the dreams are awful. Please see your doctor.

I agree w/ Silo check with your doctor. There could be other sleep medications they can give you. Since I started taking my anti depressant I had to get a sleeping pill too. Occasionally I have nightmares but that’s just a result of me processing past traumas. Please see your doctor. So glad to hear that the A-D meds are working for you. That’s great!

I probably should talk to my doc, yeah. I think I'm a bit scared of him saying "ok let's change med and try this other one one" cos the adjusting period for lexapro was hell for me. It was 3 weeks of nausea and insane lethargy, plus sleeping all the time and nightmares! I do nooooot want to go back to adjusting period.

starfiresilverstar: OOo maybe that's me too. Processing trauma. I have recurring dreams of driving off a cliff and my car specifically rolling. Always rolling. :-(

I've always been prone to weird, HD dreams - when in HS I ended up having to learn how to lucid dream just to get out of nightmares. But, does Aus have legal marijuana/CBD or anything?

Some thoughts about dreams, an interesting topic I researched over my life.... You might have been dreaming before just don't remember them. Nightmares are challenges in dream unresolved. Normally they do. And this is unsettling and wakes you up. And haunts you when you wake up.

Nightmares can triggered by several things, some of them are by chemical unbalance in the brain (ADHD), illness (fever dream), when your subconscious is desperately trying to tell you something (you are ignoring/suppressing in waking life) and using language of symbols in dreams to communicate with you. Only you can decode the symbols and feelings you felt.

There may be other causes too, but I suspect the last one might be in play for you. You are a strong person and smart about psychology. But I'm worried you going through all this trauma alone and it's starting to wear you down. I'm not an expert. I just just want to help in some way.

I can only offer ideas. I could wrong. but like brainstorming, maybe thinking about something can help lead to a solution.

Faerycat: omg so I went on a lucid dreaming google rabbit hole. So interesting! I only remember one time where in my dream I vaguely realized I was dreaming and just waited for the wave to be over. But I didn't have control of the narrative or whatever.

I have seen cbd pills but I've never been interested. Do they help with it? (gaha) the smell of weed gives me major headaches though. But I think it depends on strain.

Though maybe not quite the devil's lettuce part unless they can be scentless (LOL)

I do gummies - luckily, cbd is legal federally here, so I can use them when out of town - and then my medical marijuana at home. But the gummies don't smell like pot, though sometimes they do have a faint taste.
