I'm not far into it yet but I don't really get it. Poetry is not my thing.
yeah, he's pretty crazy. i've read SOM before, but i'm still not completely understanding everything. i'm sure it'll get better though.
He does place images that help me through the poem, which I am not through, but so far so good.
sometimes, he seems to just ramble and jumps from topic to topic; other times his allegories are inspiring. so yeah, it's confusing
yeah get confused when he jumps from topic to topic. i'm not sure how they all relate, or if they are even supposed to?
I am not a big fan of this poem. I seems to me that he is saying the same things over and over again...
He still confuses me, especially when he begins to jump from topic to topic. Yet I think I am liking it.
I think he is a very good writer, however I'm not following it very well as he jumps topics.
I just finished it this afternoon. I liked it, even though it was a bit odd. He's like an omnipresent being. Loved the imagery.
yeah, transcendentalism is a huge part of whitman's stuff. the whole 'i'm part of nature and nature's part of me!' hubub. haha, it's lovely.
It's like trying to capture a moving object. I try to let my understanding grow organically rather than linearly. Meaning trying to make
sense of it from beginning to end is a lot harder than making sense of it piecemeal. That's not always a comfy way to read though. One has
to be comfortable operating without a "big picture" and that's always a negotiation.
I'm not a big fan of poetry. I found Song of Myself hard to follow so it was tough for me to take away anything from it.
it was hard to follow but I still like the idea of how everyone is connected through the limitless...
...occupations, races, religions and cultures of the world (in part 15).
