maybe we'll let you back into our city now
I'm wondering if they did this just for business purposes, though. pessimistic
Even if it is, a loss of donations in anti-gay organizations is still a loss, so I say we take it.
HOLY SHIT. That's pretty impressive!
And as long as the money's not going to those groups, I can enjoy a chick fil a sammich without guilt.
Ooh, that's pleasant news. Any acknowledgement that the discrimination is bad for them is good enough for me.
Of course it's a business move, but it's a good sign that doing this is a good business move in a America
haha yeah I feel the same way Karl
UltraDude: you are exactly right! It means that they recognize that society is becoming unaccommodating to that mindset, which is good!
Regardless, it's good to see that they at least have the common sense now to stop donating to discriminatory organisations.
I'm slightly skeptical of whether or not they'll follow through with it, but the fact that they're even saying they'll implement it is a
step in the right direction. BUT, we'll see if they really mean it.
it's a good first step. but yeah, not holding my breath - company culture can't be changed with just a few words like that.
awww yeah I hope they follow through CAUSE CFA IS SO TASTY
not that i give a fuck about Chick-fil-A
and even if they're just doing it for business reasons, who cares. The end result is the same and so I'm haps
but seeing a business that seemed to be totally against gay people turning around on that policy is great
I might reconsider stopping there on occasion. Chicken biscuit is tasty, and like their lemonade. It's a good start for them.
Still need to get better though.
“treat every person with honor, dignity and respect-regardless of their beliefs, race, creed, sexual orientation and gender,”
that is a good statement and they should feel good
Why it took them that long to come to the conclusion that this is a good policy to have is a mystery, but
now adopt it at a corporate level and I will be the happiest CFA eating person in the universe
(ikr? I thought treating every customer and employee with respect no matter what was like, part of ever service industry BUT OK)
(it's still nice to see it in words)
I imagine that they'll still donate to religious groups - they're Christian, after all - but after it leaves their hands they probs don't
eh there is tastier chicken to be had, as I understand
Well, I'm still not eating there. On the grounds that their chicken sandwiches taste horrible.
Yeah, that's what I've heard
I'll stick to Ezell's here, tyvm
Well, "business reasons" isn't necessarily a bad thing.
changing the minds of all the biggoted assholes in the world isn't exactly a realistic goal to set.
but creating incentives for them to live and let live, or at least keep their fucking mouths shut every once in a while is.
We don't have Ezell's here, and I don't like Raising Cane's, which is the other chicken joint here abouts =3=
Ezell's is a Seattle area thing, yeah
Oh god they are the tastiest of chickens
God if I wasn't STONE BROKE I would dash up the hill for some chicken strips and rolls rtfn
man if i want chicken i will haul my ass to boston market tbh
Oh god I miss Boston Market
omg I did not expect that to work but YAY \o/
god fuck now I'm really homesick for the Bay Area again
shh shh come over and i will take you all to boston market
we will partake of chicken and godly mac and cheese
And hrnfgh their mashed potatoes and the creamed spinach
sob Boston Market I miss youuuuuuu
guh now I need to go down the street to get some guys
Unexpected good news!
There's something I haven't thought of in a decade or two
well thats good at least...now lets see how long that lasts. yes?
They're slightly-less-homophobic-maybe-not-really, but their food still sucks.
I'm skeptical that as to whether or not they mean this, but if it's true, then I'm glad.
also one of the comments made me side-eye " Feeding children fast food is child abuse."
If it's constant and there's no alternatives, maybe.
But now and then it's not child abuse.
Oh I didn't even read the comments
I wanted to leave the article on a good note
Bad habit of mine to scroll down.
Anyone can say something results in child abuse...
Yeah, some of the responses have been pretty OT.
like saying "SAYING CHILD ABUSE IS CHILD ABUSE"
...fast food is child abuse
okay then, why don't you pay for the parents to feed them more expensive healthy meals?
Maybe if you beat them over the head with a cheeseburger
EAT YOUR BIG MAC YOU LITTLE BASTARD!!
/sob/ this is a horribly hilarious mental image i've got right now
throwing the french fries at them like throwing needles or something and using onion rings as shurikens
and kids dodging them like in the matrix o_O
chicken nuggets exploding like tiny grenades
...okay that actually sounds like something i would like to see in a manga sometime
throwing the special sauce in their eyes
everyone was fast food fighting... those fries as fast as lightning
the hero can be a champion of well balanced meals
and he fights fast food goons and crazy vegans with nunchucks made of carrots
iirc, one of the talking points was also CFA's denial of same-sex couples on their marriage retreats. I wonder if that will change with
oh good... i have been wanting their waffle fries for ages
Thank god! I can eat there again.
That was about my reaction
I fucking MISS those spicy chicken sandwiches.
I'm going to ask if we can go there tonight....
that was totally unexpected!
Lol. It's called avoiding lawsuits.
i'm reading their facebook wall right now it's actually quite...fabulous
I see what you did there.
i did nothing, it really is fabulous
It's a start, but the company needs to work on its sexism.
I'm still going to prefer Boston Market and Johnny Rockets.
/eyerolling so hard at all the idiots expressing disappointment at what CFA did
especially anyone who seems to be under the impression that Christian groups are in any way persecuted
Don't worry; hopefully in a few years or less they'll be on the wrong side of history.
By their definition, they are. Since "persecution" now means "we're not on top and unquestioned in that"
Just a bit further to go but this is a nice step.
...oh, i can finally try chik-fil-a
I still like Boston Market better, and honestly this whole "oh we're adding sexual orientation to our anti-discrimination policy"
a bit dicey anyway, since IIRC that form of discrimination is illegal in the US.
So it's like "Oh, we're adding it to our policy" and I think "Really? You were supposed to have it in there BEFORE."
It's only illegal in certain states, it's not a national legislation yet.
Last I heard, the bill was referred to a committee by the 112th Congress (2011).
Even then, if they don't have that wording in their policy in those states, they're breaking the law.
And I somehow doubt they had separate policy written for those states.
Yeah, it depends on the state.
I know it's illegal in mine, or at least I'm about 95% sure.
Wow, it USED to be illegal and then our governor rolled it back with an executive order. Bob McDonnell, for those interested.
VA. Welp, sounds like I can head down there, visit a friend, and while I'm there smack him upside the head with a dead carp.
Politics: the ultimate evidence of the de-evolution of mankind.
it's bible belt country so nothing reasonable, probably.
Between that and the tornadoes, you couldn't pay me to live in the Midwest.
Good for them! Still not gonna buy their stuff; I'm a vegetarian.
people do stuff purely for profit most of the time; if it benefits us, it's a win \o/
Damn, I want a peach milkshake so bad now. xD
There's no telling, though, if they'll just try something again once this dies down.
guuuuh I have to go out later today... I think the first thing I do with my tax refund is get a chicken sandwich
think I'm gonna get some chicken tomorrow to incentivize this good behavior
and a peach milkshake sounds amazing
Im going to do it on mynext paycheck and mail a copy of the receipt to the company going: First time I bought CFA in years. Thank you.
you might not want to do that, they've given no indication that they plan on dissolving
this
Well, donating to groups with political agendas.
it's a branch of their own organization
I'm just saying, take whatever CFA says with a grain of salt
I know, but I will also be optimistic
even though I know its a pure business move and thats it
yes, but there's no reason I can see not to incentivize moves in the right direction
unless those moves in the right direction are just lip service
which is what it looks like if they're continuing to maintain an arm of their own foundation that is anti-gay
YESSSSS. I'm skeptical but still yesss!
i don't mind if it's 'just a business move' it's a move in the right direction
not much you can do to change personal opinion, after all
...though i really hope it's not just lip service
Skeptical here. Don't buy it.
any step in the right direction, even a little one, is a good thing imo
Awwwwwyeah
The important thing is that pressure was enough to make them back down.
In other words, we have that kind of power to make people stop bullshit like that.
Score one for the home team
Oh thank god I can finally eat Chick-fil-A
I'll probably keep avoiding them. Not just because I'm cynical as hell and expect them to go back on their word as soon as they think
it's safe, but also because they took so damn long that a new, far better chicken place opened up on campus :|
i knew it was too good to be true
.....had a feeling something like this would turn up.
People like Cathy will never change.
.....welp so much for that
Although to be honest, I kinda wonder if they're just going to lose support from everyone at this point.
To the pro-gay group, they fought against equality, lied about not doing that anymore, and immediately did it again
And to the anti-gay group, they just tried to appeal to the pro-gay side which could be seen as a betrayal
...wait what so it was a hoax or they changed their minds?
it was neither. They said mealy-mouthed bullshit, media took it out of context, they kept on keeping on.
Their press release from yesterday is almost identical to their original statement when this whole thing started.
Firan25: beat you to what, the link i posted?
I kind of feel a little bad. It seems to me like the vice president and some other executives are trying to do the right thing and fix their
public image, but the president himself is like NOPE.
Yeah, it sucks when there's people in the company who want to improve it, but the people who actually own it continue to be raging assholes.
I considered it this morning...but nah. Not worth it. There's better places to go.
....wow, this is even worse than if they'd just kept to their homophobic money spider without saying a word.
