I'm think packaged miso soup. I've got about half an hour of waiting for folks to arrive in the morning, so I could microwave water, pour into a mug, and enjoy while I wait and do paperwork.
Not sure what else to add to it that can be stored in a cupboard... I don't want noodles.
KabochaKitsune: I keep bucking at the idea of the single serve cups. I'm not sure how else to speed up the process of rice cooking, though.
yeah, people make and freeze rice in chunks to microwave with a piece of ice and it looks like it works for them
yeah freezing rice is super easy. it doesn't store in the cabinet is the downside, but you can make it in bulk and freeze it in any container you like
Freezer space I CAN take up without feeling like a dick about it.
Fridge space can be hard to find since a lot of clients bring their lunches.
instant oatmeal packs don't take up much space and can be made using the same water + microwave combo
instant oatmeal is a good one, I do overnight oats in jars so I can make 3-4 at a time and then just grab a breakfast jar and a spoon
if you have freezer space you can also get some decent microwavable burritos that are cheap, easy and full of egg and cheese protein
Hard to find them without cheese, alas. Oatmeal is also disgusting to me. Food pickiness out here ruining LIVES and BUDGETS.
you could try grits or cream of wheat, etc, very different consistencies
I end up eating Greek yogurt with a spoonful of peanut butter fairly often, with honey and a small bit of vanilla if I want it sweeter. growing up I did a lot of frozen waffles with peanut butter or honey or both
I won't say the latter is delicious but it fed me and was filling enough until my next meal
waffles, cottage cheese, and maple syrup was nice
apologies if I've forgotten a food restriction in these suggestions
making your own burritos in a sheet pan with a rim so that they're touching/completely fill the pan, baking them until they hold together, then freezing them once cool, is also really easy to bulk batch
Biz tries to avoid dairy, iirc.
I'm going to recommend couscous or quinoa, like some of
Near East's boxed mixes. the ones with cheese say so on it (like the parmesan flavor) and are easy to avoid
the grand majority of their offerings are vegetarian and most are also vegan. you basically boil water with a seasoning packet plus your choice of butter or vegetable oil, then add the grain mix once it's boiling and cook either on low heat or off heat entirely with the cover on
