SL folks: trouble logging in?

i watched the matrix for the first time and I stayed for the credits and now i want to have a son named godric that will end the plague of humanity BUT

4 mos into Second Life re-entry. Things made: 2. Kittycats acquired: 70. We all knew this was going to happen.

Getting very extra with materials. SL creators: how much effort do you put into this and how do you prevent your builds from looking bad for people who don't have materials/shadows enabled? SL consumers: Do you have materials/shadows enabled? Do you prefer builds with materials? THX!
