After my first catastrophic attempt, we are able to knit and purl in the same row for a 2x2 rib stitch!
Tonight we learned to purl and used it in a stockingette stitch swatch. Front side is top picture.p.s. Nothing I do in photoshop can make this colour look attractive...

The smallest of beginnings, but casting on is no longer a complete mystery to me!
