Middle Sib asked me to look for Chestnut about an hour ago bc they realized they hadn't seen him most of the day
We found him dead, under Mom and Dad's bed, on the body heat reflecting bed.
He really loved that spot.
So uh yeah. We'd already woken the folks.
it sounds like he went there to pass away peacefully
Um. We all did our best to comfort Middle Sib.
is middle sib doing all right?
mistakesweremade - yeah I'm sure he did. It would have bee3n very warm and very safe, surrounded by the household smells
And he was overall in good health and active right up to the end: he'd started to lose enough weight for it to be perceptible just this last week and we were talking about maybe adjusting his feeding
In retrospect it seems obvious that was a big signal but that's just hindsight.
sometimes it is, and sometimes it's just about adjusting the food. you couldn't have known.
Middle Sib is very very sad but seems - to be as ok as possible? Considering Middle Sib and the circs.
Yeah. I'm not mad at myself. He was a very happy and extremely loving and engaged kitty.
how old was chestnut, do we know?
He felt safe with us. He had fun & he liked to pick special spots to sleep & hang out in the kitchen when people cooked, and he slow blinked and purred and directed us to sit where he wanted us to make him a lap.
He lived with us for nearly three years and I know they were very good years for him.
I think from what Z has told us he was 12.
Which is a pretty respectable age.
Especially considering his asthma and that there was second hand smoke in the home he was living in before.
poor little buddy. I hope he went easy
you guys gave him a very comfortable retirement and a loving family
I'm just really sad and confused bc death is confusing and doesn't make sense to me as a mortal being
transilience - me too. I am glad he got to pick his place of passage.
I'm sorry
honeyfoot - thank you. It's hard when we lose friends
Buried Mr Chestnut and raised a low cairn over him.
He was such a good cat and took such excellent care of all of us, especially Middle Sib who needed him very badly.
