they do your compensation meeting separately from your review, which is later this afternoon, because they want those to be separate discussions, so different people do each so you don't feel like your compensation is tied to any specific feedback, but rather to your overall market value

That's really cool! How has the work environment been?

NowhereMan117 The environment has been great! They ACTUALLY value diversity, for one, and have a strong culture of communication and feedback that I've been loving. They obviously aren't perfect but they try really hard and their heart is in the right place which counts for a lot over other companies I've been at.

Like the first thing any team does is define "core hours" which is the five hours a day that work for everyone to schedule meetings in, and then how you work around that is up to you, so like my current team core hours are 10-3 so some people start at 7 and late risers like me show up for standup at 10

That sounds fantastic! I'm glad it's worked out well. There's a ton of horror stories out there (a significant number from you), and it's good to see a business doing things right.

God knows I'm gonna try, but there's a lot of companies that... don't.

It's still terrifying to be in an industry that repeatedly likes to call me out as having MORE common sense than my peers. Which is...disconcerting.
