which. I know is an unpopular opinion
but I thoroughly dislike what they did with Thor
I'm not a huge fan of Tony dying like. I know RDJ wanted out, but did they really have to kill him and leave his (adorable) kid fatherless?
also not a fan of Steve's ending like. All this talk of 'can't change the past, time travel doesn't work like that,' but then there's Steve traveling back in time to be with Peggy????
I mean. if he went back and stayed with Peggy, wtf happened to the man she canonically married, what happened to her kids?
i liked it overall but yes i share these opinions
which, I know there's talk of "well, he only went back to her for that one dance," but. really guys? I really can't see Steve having a dance with her, and then just walking away
he had a ring on his finger
it had good moments. there were things I laughed at. but I just do not like the ending
it erases the entirety of the agent carter show???
yeah, it really, *really* does
it also doesn't work with their own explanations of how time travel works in universe
it makes a good story but it really makes no sense
one of my biggest things with time travel is. if you're going to set rules for how it works, stick to your own damn rules and do it right
I assumed he didn't go back right to when he went missing but instead went back to the same number of years later than it had been since he was unfrozen
Which I think places him after Agent Carter?
maybe. either way, it kind of still wrecks the timeline for that particular universe
by their own rules, if he was changing the past, he should've been in a new AU, not. waiting for them when they turned around
Did we ever see her husband? Could it have been Steve using a fake name? (I'm reaching)
yeah if he does that then it means Agent Carter isn't canonical for the official universe
man, i liked his ending because i didn't know that
now i'm like 'why'd you have to do that'
I think, if her husband canonically was Steve traveling back.... crap now I can't remember her name
what'shername, that Steve had chemistry with, but who was really spying on him, and was Peggy's niece???
wouldn't she had um. known. that her uncle was actually Steve?
if you go by dctv time travel, time sort of catches up with itself
when timelines are changed
so that could have been rewritten
true, but. they made this huge point that that wasn't how it works during the movie. They even visualized it with I-have-no-idea-what-her-name-is showing Bruce
I haven't seen the Dr. Strange movie, so I assume she's from that
eventually I will see it, but..... sitting through a Benedryl Cumberbund centered movie is not appealing
On another note; they could've used a lot more of the ladies than they actually utilized for the movie.
my beef with the movie is like the length it kind of went to, intentionally or not, erase Ragnorok
like. the two point five seconds of the ladies gathering around Peter at the end to get the gauntlet through the battle was not enough
I haven't seen Endgame and don't think I care enough lol. but popping in to say I enjoyed Dr. Strange. It's very fun to watch, if nothing else, and it's also about people giving a LOT of sass to butternut cabbagepatch's character when he's a dick which is great
yes the lady talking to bruce is from the dr. strange movie
the plot of the dr. strange movie is essentially "learn to be less of a dick" lmao
XD yeah, wife keeps telling me that I'd enjoy them giving Strange grief
it's what made the snark between him and tony so good in the last movie
and. as much as I hate Cumberbatch, I do actually like the Dr. Strange character
On the erasing Thor Ragnarok thing, yeah. the character choices for Thor in this movie felt like they were completely bypassing all the character development Thor has had over the years
like. suddenly he's back to beginning of movie one dumbass jock Thor???
(sorry, this plurk is bitching. a lot of bitching. but I don't want to spoil other people's plurks who enjoyed the movie, so it's all coming out here)
i think the only think i enjoyed about Thor is that he kept giving off a Big Lebowski vibe, which i found hilarious
but that's not exactly something you should base Thor's character on
I also dislike that we had a couple movies build up for Bruce having issues with Hulk....
and then it's all solved in a five year time jump that's off screen
like. I love Bruce, he's one of my favorite characters in the MCU (which is funny, because I've never been a Hulk fan), and they give us all this build up in other movies, since they can't get the rights to a Hulk movie by itself....
yeah i kind of wanted to see the way that happened
and then they off screen the climax, and it's like the most unfilfilling thing ever
it could have been really interesting but no
other beefs I had with the ending. Nebula literally killing her past self
which.... ???? how would she still be alive then? unless they went with "oh it's not really a killing blow, we're just never going to mention it again"
past Gamora just. vanishing, without a single word said about it in movie. which, my brother argued that that's where the next GOTG movie will be going, with Quill looking at her face before Thor walked onto the ship, but. idk, if just felt like they could've done a little more with that
also. how the hell does Tony freaking dusting Thanos and his entire army affect the timeline???
putting the stones back in their proper times isn't going to fix that, guys
They kind of had two conflicting theories of time travel in the movie. One is the once Bruce and Nebula explained. The other is the one The Ancient explained
yeah i didn't like bruce in ragnarok either and this was so much worse
And I've had several timeline people be upset about thor's character, but also - I kind of get it. Like, his dad just died, and the first thing that he does as the ruler is get his ass kicked by his sister and start ragnarok and destroys his home
so, you know, he's probably not feeling awesome about that on top of not actually being ready to be a king. he's been out doing adventures the whole time
then Thanos shows up before he can get his people to a new home and safety
Thanos trounces them and kills 1/2 of the people on his ship and his brother
so, not a great start as being a leader, as having all this extra responsibility besides being a hero
and then when it counts, he didn't defeat thanos before he annihilated 1/2 the galaxy, including more of his own people
and when they do find him later, Thanos has destroyed his chances of fixing his mistake
it is not surprising to me, then, that Thor could logically have a totally breakdown feeling like a failure and carrying what is no doubt enormous guilt
and of course no one can convince him otherwise
but that's just my take on it, personally
Thor's breakdown makes sense but it was def played for comedy in the film, which was my personal problem
Yes, that I can see and agree with, though visually I think it did show just how much all of it had affected him. but you're right, it could have been handled with a bit more seriousness
if it had been portrayed as a breakdown and not just for comedy, that might've been one thing. but it didn't feel like that at all.
you definitely hit that nail on the head,
schematise
Thor is also my absolute favorite in MCU (alongside Steve), so it just. felt like this complete travesty
I think it also unwittingly made everyone else look like dicks for apparently just
leaving him to rot for years
and I doubt they thought that decision through when writing it bc they wanted the surprise factor but lmao
idk I think I just didn't like the whole time skip thing
also. wtf is going to happen to a world that just suddenly has doubled in population
I mean yes, it's just returning the planet to its population from five years ago, but suddenly getting that many people back is going to be problematic
Schools are going to be super awkward
Every class is a mix of snapped kids and kids that used to be five years younger than them
... I just realized there are bound to be families out there where the younger child is now the older child
oh lord, yeeeah, there would be
middle children who are no longer middle children
also, I couldn't figure out if Ned and Peter like, slow-run-into-a-hug-ing at each other was supposed to mean only Peter was snapped, or they both were snapped. It felt like the former, but that wouldn't make sense with Ned looking to still be the same age
Maybe they were just so happy to still be the same age
Also yeah I got where they were COMING from with Thor but the way they played it was... less great
that could be it too, yeah
It had me humming Galavant and... Galavant is a comedy
i think it was the way they tried to make it about the comedic value, yeah
thor is perfectly capable of angst
they probably wanted there to be some humor in there because the whole movie had a lot of pretty heavy moments
but a lot of the humor they decided to go with was... not funny
i think they were trying to go for ragnarok style humor, but it failed because it didn't work for the circumstances
I found INfinity War had the same issue with tone problems
I didn't love the whole thing with depressed!Thor being a joke but it could have been okay if it hadn't lasted for the whole damn film
if it had been, like 10 minutes of him being deeply depressed and giving of Big Lebowski vibes, it could have been interesting for his character, but it lasted literally two hours
also, not sure why they felt his depression had to be funny instead of sad??
depressed people are hilarious, don't you know
second watch of the movie
still don't like it, ffffft
I dislike it a tiny bit less, but
still unhappy with most of the things already mentioned here
i actually figured out the time travel stuff to my own satisfaction, if you'd like to hear
Steve's probably will never make sense
eh. I'm guessing that some timeline divergence is just now missing all of Thanos' army. which is why I'm a little less hating it.
but yeah, the entire situation with Steve still makes no freaking sense
Steve going back and staying should've sent him into his own timeline divergence, not had him still there in the 'prime' universe, as it were
yeah that's what i figure, the prime universe still has Nebula and Gamora still died and Thanos still snapped, but some time line has none of that happen
which is how Gamora is alive again, too
i did think of one way to make Steve'
so the same thing happens, they go over to the old man sitting on the bench, and... wait a second... from the back he looks... kind of familiar?
and they approach him and it's Stan Lee
Old!Steve is played by Stan Lee
and that still wouldn't answer our questions about Peggy but it would mean Steve had been there for everything in the series
which would be kind of beautiful
