having to work out how to use various social media especially with the dreaded Facebook constantly trying to force you to use their advertising tools. 😡

continuing to stay away from FaceBook because it's evil (and always was).

agreed but unfortunately a lot of event organisers use it as a way of monitoring our work when we’ve applied/ been selected for exhibitions etc. Failing, of course, to understand that the majority of ‘real’ people have run screaming from it.

large tracts of social media are mostly inhabited by the trashiest of people - including the sort of marketers who organise events.

that I am constantly amazed at some of these people still believe that people ‘liking’ these events or even marking themselves as ‘attending’ has anything to do with actual people physically coming to said events.

the more successful organisers are still the ones who pay for local newspaper advertising/ flyers through doors via post or by hand and putting posters up in the area.

local newspapers are dying out because not many people will pay for them or read them. Posters in the local area can't work for people who would travel in from outside the area and not otherwise be in the area. So their usefulness varies.

depends on venue, size of event etc. Local newspapers nowadays often are freebies paid for by the advertisers, some are quite glossy magazines. They already have large distributions. Posters can be banners around town on roundabouts etc. Even signposted from motorways on some events. Of course that then depends on how supportive the local councils are.
