oh! by the way, I made a trifle with the recipe you gave me
it was delicious! I loved it
'm so glad you liked it! \o/
After I was talking about it with you earlier, I decided to make one for the holiday dinner. XD
it was perfect cuz it wasn't too heavy either, so even though I was really full from dinner, I could still eat it
Jams I make a mean trifle.
The way may family makes it is this:
Line the bottom of your bowl with sponge cake
Glob on some raspberry jam and spread it around.
Make raspberry jello and pour it in while it's still warm - don't cover the cake, just put in enough jello solution to have it all soak through the cake'
Oh, you should put it in the fridge to set, then put on the peaches
Then you cover that with cooled custard
Then you cover that with whipped cream
Then you put peaches and/or sprinkles on top.
Mainstay special occasion dessert ever since I was a kid
OK so you make custard and let it cool and then put that on
DEFINE what you mean by "make custard"
Because if you pour hot custard on I guess it will melt the jello...?
Because this means radically different things depending on who you talk to.
Uh, make... custard. Like.We usually use custard powder.
But I know you're super fancy and can make it from scratch so you could probably do that
I NEVER KNEW 'MAKE CUSTARD' WAS SUCH A LOADED TERM GEEZE
LISTEN TO ME 'MAKE A CUSTARD' MEANS EGG YOLKS AND WHOLE MILK AND SUGAR AND FLOUR AND SALT AND VANILLA
WHICH IS NOT WHAT MOST SANE PEOPLE MEAN.
I don't see that using that would be any kind of problem - We just use premade custard powder because it's a billion times easier and cheaper and--Yes, we are sane.
You could probably even use pre-made custard from a carton if that's something available near you.
It is not available in SoCal that I have ever seen.
That's probably a Kiwi thing.
It's actually really good.
I used to buy the litre carton for dinner when I was a student.
WHEN I MAKE A THE TRIFLE WHICH REQUIRES LIKE FIVE HOURS TO DO BECAUSE I'M INSANE
Because they would have it on sale sometimes for like $2
I ate this trifle I can confirm it was tasty goodness
Woo! I'm glad you liked it, Bret!
Sour cream pound cake, strawberries with sugar and balsamic vinegar, zabaione made with moscatto, pound cake, strawberries, whipped cream, repeat until out of space in trifle dish.
You Jams, you make the Everyman's Trifle. The trifle for the masses. I make a trifle for Elite Assholes.
You make a trifle we can all believe in.
....wait you put vinegar in it...?????
A small amount of balsamic vinegar makes strawberries taste better.
I am unsure if this is a true fact.
There's far more sugar added to the strawberries than there is vinegar.
It's like a teaspoon of vinegar and a quarter cup of sugar to a pint of strawberries.
I've just never heard of it being used that way. XD INTERESTING
That's 12 times more added sugar.
My trifle has no fresh strawberries in it though I suppose it could.
(I'm using canned mango this year because peaches upset my stomach.)
(you should use protein bars instead of sponge cake)
(Protein bars, lime jello and pineapple, peaches.... yes, yes, the perfect plan to make me Die.)
This person uses half the amount of vinegar that I would but she's also cooking it down and reducing it, so who knows.
I just let the strawberries macerate in the sugar and vinegar for an hour or so.
