for young adult fiction, I enjoyed the Mortal Instruments series - am curently making my way through Game of Thrones!

Rick Riordan's books are good too - I've read the Percy Jackson series and have now started on the second Olympians series.

Zen Mind, Beginner's Mind by Shunryu Suzuki. On Amazon Any of Iain M. Banks' science fiction, particularly Against A Dark Background or Look to Windward.

if you haven't read Atlas Shrugged it's a good book to listen to - great insight into the way the ultra right thinks
