I just keep having game ideas! and even though I won't make all of them, or necessarily any of them, I really like analyzing what makes a game work and what doesn't
road of 'trode didn't quite work, because I didn't put in enough ways for people to be pushed together.
I kept waiting for people to get a little more CR before I started the plot going, and it ended up kind of failing on the ground because of it
and by the time I came up with some better ideas for it, enthusiasm had already dimmed, and people weren't tagging fast, and yeah
right now, I have a couple brewing around
I also have some vague ideas for a spinoff from Bete Noire, but that would be a far future thing
there's also the possibility of rethinking Road of 'Trode, this time maybe starting off with the government aware of what's happening with the computers and tossing everyone in detention together
continuing this on my other plurk name because being signed in on two at once is kind of clumsy
but yes! as soon as experiencing their delusion, 'Troders would be tossed into an isolated city, probably near the Thaumic zone. they'd be able to work to regain net access
I'd just be wary of making it a jamjar
so if anyone has any thoughts on any of the three
I think there is a game very similar to the second one
there's distant skies, which does have a lot of world travel
not Myst-based but the library thing with worlds in the books
not DS, I think it's just called the_library?
oh right, I think I've seen that one
small and slow and I haven't heard anything about it in ages, but I think it's trucking along in it's niche
I wouldn't mind seeing a rework of 'Trode
I did love the concept, I think maybe the world was just a little too 'big' to start out with
which isn't to say that their isn't room for more than one game like that, what with a hundred jamjars
but it's worth mentioning I guess
indeed, now I'm going to go glance at their premise
anyhow, yeah, if Trode happens, I'm going to want it to be faster than what it was. with a really slow game, I just always feel like I'm waiting for things
and that's a feeling that's not conducive to mod enthusiasm
yeah, the library's a little different, I think. doesn't seem like characters can write alternate worlds, more like that all stories are connected
which is going end up with different themes
the writing part sounded really cool
would this be at all similar to that archive idea you had once, or are they separate?
for reference, guys, the archive idea is one that your character's canons are part of an archive at the end of the multiverse, cataloguing everything that has ever happened ever
and the archive becomes corrupted, so canons start going off the rails, so your characters have to realize that they're just a record, not a person, and start fixing the corruption
the debate being whether they are really sentient, whether it's worth it preserving what came before or becoming what they are now
and also facing the light-death of the multiverse
oh huh, the_library's just a dressing room now
I think maybe it's been winding down for awhile?
I wasn't sure if it was active or not when I checked it out a few months ago
the top post right now is from ofdrumsthesound
still voting for a Trode reboot <.< .../backs out
RoRodiculous: it would be kind of morally satisfying to rethink, reboot and have it work
but then it would really blow if it rebooted and then failed again
anyhow, social darwinist sex game definitely won't be a thing unless city of ariel fails or unless I really start disliking playing there
/sits here, on account of I love your game ideas
The "Myst" (a.k.a. Darwinia) game is probably too open-ended for my tastes, but I stil think it's a quite cool idea.
the darwinia game is the archive one
the myst one is the books and universes one
...I have too many ideas obvs
also the myst game would probably start out with a set of like, five universes, maybe, that are at easy access
the rest would have to havel inking books written for them
OH WAIT, I assumed it was an evolution of the Darwinia idea, no that makes sense
they are actually similar, which didn't occur to me
apparently I have patterns
I really like the idea of the socialist darwinist sex game because I think it allows....idk more sides?
Like Ariel is great and has a premise set up where the constant sexing is mildly insidious
and there can be plot that happens around trying to find out more about it
but your character is still very much TOTALLY FORCED to continue having sex. and like okay I get it's a sex game but
I have rebellious characters
if they figure out that it's a systemic thing
they are going to want to fight it?
which you seem to not have the option to do
And like in the Darwin game I am just sort of assuming that
since you could be on numerous sides of the issue
there'd be more variety on what attitudes towards sex you could play.
if any of this makes sense?
Also yes, I'd be up and at em for a rebooting of trode
allllTHOUGH Kadin lacking canon memories would put him in a weird place
although I could easily tweak his story to say he left the teeth to head into the thaumic zone instead of for twin city
and he could find the detention center and fit in that way
HE'S SEARCHING FOR HIS ORIGINS
And also being monk class he naturally resists magic attacks as he goes up in levels so
I feel it's probably a semi popular destination for monk pilgrimages
ooh - could have him be picked up by accident or something
locked up and not given a fair hearing
Oooor he could easily have been poking around places he shoudn't have been
anyway yes, ariel is a pretty restrictive premise
and gotten detained by guards for trespassing or whatever
it bothers me that sex games are always jamjars
you get your sex one place and your plot in another
like ariel WOULDN'T bother me that much except for the fact that they have the whole premise set up as if the characters are supposed to like
actually investigate/protest the crazy sex shenanigans but then
basically i want my characters having terrible kinky sex while also overthrowing governments is that too much to ask???
the game mechanics don't provide an options for that
though to be perfectly fair thrawn is working so well in ariel because I don't have to worry about his godmodey government-overthrowing powers
anyway, I'm going to wait for a little bit on the social darwinist one regardless
opening one heavy-kink game after another, even if they have big differences, is going to hurt both game's chances
I've already maybe suckered brim into modding with me if I do that one
I have to say, I like the idea of the social darwinist one enough that it makes me want to give sex games a chance.
that'd be cool
god I don't even know, guys!!! I want to make all three of these games
trode revision, myst and social darwinism
