make it a goal in some original stories to have at least two girls who care deeply about each other and not be romantic rivals for a guy. The ones that don't? Those are often my most depressing tragedies.

Chances are, the tragedies are so Jude-the-Obscure-like that they depress the Hell out of everyone, including me.

Not to mention, those are the few cases where BOTH the boys and girls are not very awesome people.

At least, most of them. If there is one decent guy in the story, chances are high there will be one decent girl as well. Not likely to be a pairing, though.
