Not familiar w/ the Inspire. But on the whole, Android is maturing faster & more robust than iOS. Likely due to larger platform choices.

my friend who switched did not like her Inspire when she first got it. I'll have to ask her why and if she likes it better now.

I love my android.. but after seeing what ios 5 will do.. google has its work cut out.. go with IOS

Not sure about the iOS recommendation BUT go with the best phone you can afford. Cost of the phone is nothing compared to cost of data plan!
