How Plurk makes money? I don't know, but I don't know how Twitter does, either. Neither one has ads (not that I want them to)...

I just keep thinking that eventually you have to make a profit somehow.

Eventually, yeah, because the equipment and bandwidth can get expensive, especially the more popular you get. Case in point: Wikipedia.

dont we already have mobile support?

We have it through the web site for mobiles, but not an actual app that might perform faster.

I spend quite a bit of time on Twitter, but Plurk is my fave! Easier to get close to people and have actual convo's. Twitter is too big.
