selling or buying?

Don't expect to get bargains - it happens - but rarely - you can spend a TON of time trying to get a bargain

right. know what stuff costs outside of ebay

Can be a good place to find things you can't just run to the local store for - parts for old cars ,collectables etc...old bike parts

but still watch the prices

I suspect there are networks of people that help each other run up their bids - depending on what the products are -but especially in

specialty collectible / rare item areas

as for selling...

Its a lot of work to sell and ship and the fees - if you do more than a few items a month - add up to a lot

like any other business it's all about margin

get stuff cheap and sell for markup

for the individual looking to sell odds and ends and not make a business - only worthwhile for items that there is a market for

that you can't necessarily access locally via another medium
