THROW IT IN THE middle of the floor
but near any strategically placed point of purchase displays? or just in a random spot?
i always make it uber easy.
Kind of hard to hide anything in my store
I'm just wondering if there's any strategy to the placement. Like placing a free jacket right next to the full-priced matching outfit
i never expect hunters to stay long and shop, they are on a mission! i only hope that my overall store makes an impression and that
after they see what they got that they come back so, I put it in far enough that they have to come inside, but not
with the intention of steering them towards specific items.
that's a good idea, then they can buy the matching if they want to
I just wonder if it would be effective. I know the hunters are in and out, but there's gotta be ways to put stuff in front of their faces
Especially if its stuff that goes together. Stuff that's good on its own, but so much better with these convenient accessories
I think that's a good approach, Annyka. Make it visible, but have some enticing items nearby.
pretty sure she's ended up with extra jewelry that way, at least
the one part free-buy the matching pieces does work for sure, i've used it and been taken in by it! I just think that during hunts,
especially these hunts with 30, 50, 75 stores, people tend to plow through to get everything that is free without thinking about spending $
not all of course, but most.
True, the hardcore hunters do it that way. If I do a hunt these days (very rarely), I look at the list of designers and visit
those I know and like since before and those that are unfamiliar but sound interesting. In either scenario, I do look around a bit.
And by now I think you have a lot of people who do approach hunts like that.
well I think if shops aren't doing something to keep people in the store, theyre wasting the opportunity of the hunt
I never pay attention what's around the prize, to me it's either in plain sight or out of the way and hard to find, it's all I remember.
Yes, its become too much about just serving up the item as fast as possible. Then it does little for your exposure, it just affects traffic.
people always say that they mark off the shops they want to come back to, but any retailer knows that once a customer leaves, theyre not
likely to return. They'll forget or move on to something else
If that is the case, i see it the same as other types of advertising. People don't always visit a store right after seeing an advertisement;
but when people are exposed to a specific brand multiple times, it starts to stick and become part of their list of stores they know.
ebbiibbe: near a group joiner is a good idea! if they like what they see in general they can join, but then you can remind them you exist!
that's a good idea Eboni.
That's where I was thinking of putting mine
I was just wondering if part of the problem with freebies and such isnt so much that there are too many,
but that theyre not really planned out as part of an overall strategy.
and I include myself as someone who just throws freebies out there with no general plan
I'm gathering statistics from the H&G hunt and SL Commerce. No matter where I put my item, how easy it was, etc, people just breezed in &
grabbed it, or asked for a hint, or even given people the location. People aren't spending money at all. I've also encountered some of the
rudest people I've ever met in SL.
hunters dont shop, but if the gift is good and they like it they return later and shop. That is something I have found as a managet of the
same store in sl for over 2 years.
to many hunts around now so you have to becareful you pick the right one to be in. it is a freebie you are giving so to expect
a cash return right away is silly on the store owners part. its IF that gift if well made and useful, fun and stands out from others
then some folk will return and shop
I've been pretty vocal about hunts and hunters in general and while a large percentage of hunters grab the gift and never come back, I have
gotten some good core customers from them. I'm VERY particular about which hunts I join. Smaller high profile hunts seem to do better AND I
always put my hunt item very near a specific target in the store, most often my Subscriber or newest releases.
And Moo is very correct in saying a lot of hunters are rude, disrespectful and unappreciative. This freebie culture we've developed is
definitely backfiring on us in a bad way. Luckily I think the people that do appreciate are a larger number, just not as vocal....for now
I think the purpose of freebies has seriously changed. Whereas it used to be a taste of what a designer offers or something nice to do for
noobs so they could have something decent to wear until they decide to bring money into SL. So they can see bit of what SL is about, now it
seems to have changed into an entitlement where designers are expected to give their BEST work away for free. It's not an enticement to shop
anymore, it's a traffic building tool and very temporary. Not looking at the future sales picture but just getting a stream of avatars in
the fact that people are criticizing and trashing freebies AMAZES me. It makes me wince every time. I was so thrilled to have that first
Freebie warehouse box so long ago and I remember saving up for two months so I could buy my first good skin. That's a whole different SL
the gift does need to be a good one, whenI hunt if the gift is well made I will return and shop if it isnt then I delete and never go back
I've watched people TP to my store, walk right to the exact (former) location of the hunt item, then IM me to remind me that the hunt
doesn't end until the 7th, so I shouldn't have picked up my item yet. They didn't even bother looking around to see if I'd moved it.
I joined the hunt group to see the chatter going on. I watched people spoil my hunt locations. Others asked for help finding every single
item instead of actually looking for it. There's a girl in the hunt that's also in *4* other hunts, and the only item she's had to move is
the H&G one so far. I don't know what's up with this hunt, but the people are just ridiculous!
As for statistics, so far almost 1600 people have grabbed my item. I suggested to the SL Commerce guy that he add an ability to track buyers
of a single item to see if they were existing customers or if they buy anything down the road. I'm hoping he implements it. I'll post my
complete findings when I have them. As for participation in another hunt, it's not likely...
OH! But I did notice that despite people bitching about not being able to find my item, most spent less than 2 mins in my store.
