Katsucon is a Washington DC anime convention held at the Gaylord hotel over President's Day weekend. This is my second year going with a group of close cosplay friends, so I'm pretty sure my feelings about it are pretty set.

Pros (with caveats)
- If you are into the cosplay scene and really like interacting with cosplayers, this con is great for bumping into them, cuz I saw/met cosplayers even I knew
- You get a lot of really cool cosplays to look at, cuz quite a few people go all out!
- There's a real big party vibe, if you like raves or just dancing on the main floor

- If you like winter cons cuz your cosplays make you overly warm, the weather here is conducive to that
- The Gaylord hotel is beautiful and has lots of places to take pics both inside and outside of the hotel (weather be willing)
- Washington DC is an amazing city with lots of museums to go to, if you have downtime and can hang out there

Cons (specifically for me):
- I am a lizard in human skin and it was raining/snowing both years I went, with cosplay that was on the skimpier end :')b Thankfully, most of the time was spent in the hotel but oh boy going between the hotel to the con sure was an ordeal

- I'm not a party person! I will sit at raves and be on my phone while guarding the bags of everyone else and be perfectly satisfied! So that doesn't give me much to do.
- This is very much a "make your own fun" con, cuz there aren't many panels and things to do (that interest ME at least) and nothing in their artist alley has called out to me both years

- Since I go to cons in order to hang out with friends, if said people are busy hanging out with others, there is a distinct possibility that I will just sit to the side and not do anything. because I unfortunately am also super fucking socially awkward and I'm bad at talking to new people if they don't talk to me first.

- This year, I specifically fucked up because I procrastinated on making my cosplay on time so I was super stressed out and then the con itself was very eventful (derogatory). One of the standout things was that our motel toilet decided to flood on us. :| Thankfully, it wasn't as bad as when the sewage pipes on top of the artist Alley at con decided to burst

The other standout thing I don't want to talk about on my public plurk, but it sure was memorable and I sure was stressed/worried throughout it!

anyway, all this to say that while the con is worth it for my friends who enjoy the hell out of it because they are really into the cosplay community and are the kind of people to go to raves and what not, this one in particular isn't for me! I spent quite a lot of money for everything involved and while hanging out with my friends is totally worth it,

it's not enough hanging out to justify the cost. I would be way more interested in a girls trip out here to explore the city, specifically when a certain orange piece of shit isn't in power, then for the con itself.
