liek genuinely i am just neutral on the movie, it had a lot of really really good bits, but it also had so many bad bits, and it's kind of a bummer. plus again i was hoping to get a movie about shadow and i only tangentially got a movie about him

and maybe a rewatch will do me good

but if my opinions on the movie really do in fact boil down to My Single Fucking Trigger was in it, therefore i'm soured on the whole thing

it's almost comedic i think

but at least it wasn't the mario movie which not only had my single fucking trigger in it but also was just really meanspirited towards the whole cast for no apparante reason

and like i get it, i get it, because the movie has chosen to parallel not only sonic and shadow and their families but also sonic and shadow and EGGMAN because in the movieverse they have that overlap, of not having a family, or whatever, and so i get why there was so much of eggman,

wishing i was living in the universe in which i had to pee during the scene with my trigger in it so that i was unaware and could view the movie without that lens.

grabbing someone by the lapels. stop making jokes about physical abuse i swear to fucking god. i swear to fucking god. I Swear To Fucking God.

medli45 sonic 2 is great like 500x better than sonic 1 and sonic 3 is like. shadow is there and he's amazing. no real complaints except the movie triggered me and also there was probably too much jim carrey

the mario movie is just. clenching fist. in order to make peach a Cool Badass Woman they had to make mario look like he coulldn't do anything (INCLUDING PARKOUR? INCLUDING FUCKING PARKOUR???) and bowser was just. no kindness no nothing just an awful person who kept harming people when he was mad. it really got to me.

also bowser was the one who made the joke that triggered me in the mario movie so that was significantly more of a bummer than jim carrey being jim carrey for ten seconds

tho as a fellow mario rpg fan i think definitely worth taking an eyeball over i guess. because we sure did not get anything close to the mario rpg takes on mario+peach+bowser and objectively i shouldn't have expected that but Come On.

you can do better than "bowser is legitimately evil and unpleasant" and "mario is only good at jumping until peach needs to look good, and now mario sucks at jumping" for 'em. come on.

once again just spiralling down the it is not hard to just not put in one character physically harming another character they have power over as recompence for disobeying / treating that physical harm as due punishment drain. I HAVE ONE TRIGGER. YOU THINK IT WOULD BE EASY TO AVOID.

also why the mario movie just have to double down on bowser being The Bad Guy. come onnnnnnn the whole CHARM of bowser is that he's kind of a bumbling idiot

Anyway when it boils down to it, disregarding that The Movie Triggered Me, sonic 3 still cared deeply about its cast and there was effort and kindness in portraying them

the mario movie however cared so much about making peach look like a competent badass that both mario's and bowser's characterizations suffered, with the core of who those characters are just tossed out the window

"bowser is selfish but genuinely cares about his minions" is too important to me to toss out. and you're gonna have a 20 minute intro showing how good mario is at parkour only to take that skill away from him when he steps foot in the mushroom kingdom? like, WHAT.

I didn't think "mario's number 1 skill is Jumping" was a hard one, but if he's better than peach at it I guess that's misogynistic 🙄
