Vet tomorrow. Ears and eye look super gross
And she’s covered in dust and something wet on the back of her neck and runs away to hide whenever anyone gets near her so I’m a bit freaked
GIRL......... did she get into some area she shouldn't have been in?
I don’t know! I think she fell asleep too close to a radiator. I also think she scratched at her ears again and flicked poop into her eye. And that the chihuahua probably terrorized her
bad chihuahua. don't terrorize the chiller cat
yeah we are all freaked out at you and your eye, I’m sorry, vet at noon
better shot for the vet
Oh fuck yeah that's vet worthy. Good luck.
oof hope she feels better
definitely vet-worthy, poor Frankie (and I'm sorry you have extra stress!)
Motherfucker she’s blind in that eye. Doing a white blood cell count
Idk what they expect to show if it’s low because it’s always low since she has FIV
Motherfucker it’s glaucoma due to high blood pressure and stress
Couldn’t be the dog and other cat running around and us not being there for six hours and the fucking mice we’ve been killing
If I made this cat blind I’m gonna to be so upset
Hey, no, you didn't make her blind. These things happen, and you had no way of knowing she was heading this direction. You took her in right away and got her help, so you can get right on top of getting her comfortable and making the changes you need to to help manage symptoms
You can only know what you know, none of us are psychic or seers <3
yes, everything Chance just said.
Yes, 100% agreed. You are an excellent pet-parent, you take such good care of her, and you have never been even slightly negligent. Now you'll do what you need to to take care of her through this as well <3
also, as someone with a blind-in-one-eye dog, I can assure you it does NOT slow him down.
Okay short version: glaucoma. No leukemia, wbc and rbc counts perfect, ears are great (no yeast infection), mouth looks good (no stomatitis flares), blood pressure perfect
Longer story: the levels are TOO perfect to the point where they don’t know what caused it. They’re referring her to an ophthalmologist within 1-2 weeks and if I can’t get an appointment I’m supposed to bring her back. It could be primary glaucoma (very rare, just happens) or secondary glaucoma with an underlying cause they can’t determine
I mentioned her lethargy which made them wonder if it was something underlying so the recommendations switched from pure ophthalmologists to ophthalmologist plus internal care.
The two places that they recommended were Bulger in Lawrence and Tufts in Grafton. Bulger can get her in on Jan 8th, Tufts is booked through March but will take a look at her chart anyway and call me back with recommendations
Got her eye drops for the pain and fluid build up twice a day and if it’s longer than a week between appointments (which it will be) I bring her back to her usual vet for monitoring in between
Vet looks at me and goes “how much is driving / cost a factor?” With this worried look and I’m like
“I would drive to Chicago and back with her if it would help”
We got her McDonald’s on the way home and she started making angry mews when I wouldn’t drive home fast enough
awwww, she wants her treat NOW
seriously, you're such a good kitty parent
whoof that difference in pupil size
oh no half blind baby. worst christmas present
get her tiny treats to have in the car
I just hate myself a little bit. The last photo I have before this with her eyes open was Saturday and she looked fine!! Now she’s blind forever in one eye, wtf
she lost the health lottery yet again
at least she won the parent lottery
Yeah, you're doing SO much more than most pet owners would (trust me, I'm on a vet advice FB group and it is GRIM), and it's sounding more and more like this is something you couldn't possibly have predicted.
Frodo's ophthalmologist is great, hope you get lucky with hers too <3
my mom's (previously my grandparents' before they passed) cat suddenly had a severe issue and is blind in one eye and the vet could never figure out what it even was. now it looks like she has one regular eye and one ... boba pearl?? regardless she is extremely happy and fine and yeah not slowed down. : ( it's scary and sad but you're a great cat guardian
and clearly doing everything you can for her.
god my poor baby
Trying not to Google and worry to death. Blahhh
It just happened so suddenly
She’s already toothless and hard of hearing. FIV sucks
i want to give her a kitty eyepatch. she can be pirate frankenmeow
Cool I just had a cryfest and asked Sergio to come down and keep me company
We’ve had Frankie longer than we’ve been married. I know it’s unrealistic to catastrophize but I was hoping to at least beat the odds
she looks lovely and alert in that photo <3
nice relaxed forward-pointing ears
it is the pose of a cat who knows she is going to get all the attention and probably treats
