no one should be eating play doh in any such quantity that you need a gluten free option.

Kids put stuff they shouldn't in their mouths all the time, and it doesn't really take all that mutch gluten to set off someone's celiac disease.
yeah i bet it has to do with the idea of just getting it on their nails and then in their mouths later too. cross contamination with tables etc.
Chuckle & Roar Whoa Doughit looks like their whole thing is just products safe enough for kids with serious allergies to not have to worry

Yeah, that is all fair.

the real question is, why the hell is there wheat in regular play doh
July, July

Because flour is non-toxic.

I am very apparently behind on safety trends tbh.

A grad school classmate had celiac and mini candy bars would make her sick because even the ones without wheat were processed on the same machinery as the ones that did have wheat. The full-sized versions were fine.

I don't know why you'd be making play dough on the same machinery as something with gluten in it, though.

Play doh is flour-based, is why.

But making a specifically gluten-free, nut-free, soy-free modeling compound as a play-doh alternative is something that never occurred to me because the main reason play-doh is non-toxic is because so many art materials are not.

celiac is rough enough on adults, i'm glad the kiddos can have something normal like play-doh

the people with celiac who are really reactive are basically living in a gary gygax tournament module and it sucks

Yeah. It just was an initial surprise to see because you don't immediately associate "toy" and "gluten free".
