rileyboi: lol i didn't think anyone saw. i had trouble getting my words right and deleted them, but it was about how todoroki and iida would make a good team of redeemable antagonists. love hearing when narrative plans get changed because something else is being interested or a character has developed in a different direction

(i mean, they are kind of redeemed antagonists although iida stretches that a bit, but they'd do well as redeemable midbosses. still love that iida was the person to reach his hand out to deku too)

ngl in my head it's a different setting au. i like au scenarios that do a good job of "translating" originally story beats to a new setting, but i really love when an au goes in the "what if characters have very different storylines and arcs while staying true to a recognizable core"

iida and todoroki also offer an interesting contrast to "younger child of legacy hero family" and how deku helped them reevaluate their own relationships with heroism

Honestly I think that might have been why their relationship diverged while writing. What with iida having more in common with todoroki and such

i keep having a million feelings but i keep coming back to an interesting connection: out of all the people who are confronted in mha with "who are you and what does being a hero mean", deku only directly confronts iida and todoroki about this

it's a core theme of the whole story and a lot lf character arcs are ultimately this and some characters have their desire to be heroes questioned by others! but iirc deku only ever confronts these two on it and i think that's fascinating. (i may be misremembering because i haven't reread from the beginning in forever)

i don't think he ever questions bakugou's heroism, just his behavior ("why are you like this") but deku suffers from a Massive Kacchan Blindspot, so

After that the plot kicks in so he's more focused on understanding the villains/all might/the fuckin ghosts inside him,

...that reminds of a psych horror novel i read a few years back called "A Head Full of Ghosts" (it's about a 14yo who becomes the star of reality tv show because she may or may not be possessed)
