gogolita mentioned CANVA and I decided to check it out, logging in for the first time (I thought) but there were files there saved from 2022. They made me cry. In some ways, her loss hurt more than Harris' because it was a precursor.

And I had worked so hard for her in 2020 and had to give up volunteering only a few month's into the campaign because I had not had the aFib surgery and so I was too tired and could not meet my commitment. She didn't lose because I didn't volunteer, but it did mean she had a lot less money. She told me I raised over 200k for her in 2020.

It was the reason she lost and the person she lost to. Rene Gonzalez started a group pushing to reopen school in AUGUST 2020, before vaccines. Before good drugs for COVID. He was also corrupt, renting downtown offices for a pittance and not declaring it as a in-kind contribution so he got public financing. He also claimed Jo Ann was at fault for crime rate

a national phenomenon, though one worsened by an illegal slowdown by the PPB. It was a lot of things but it felt like democracy vs fascism with his anti-homeless, rah-rah police agenda. Ugh. Such a heartbreaking campaign.

The media never talked about her successes like Portland Street Response, her idea to allow restaurants to put up tents on the streets so they could stay in business, or the traffic barrels she had placed in Mt. Scott area that resulted in 64% drop in gun violence.

She was an innovator with great ideas, but the Mt. Scott trial project got people in every other neighborhood mad she didn't do them first rather than excited to be next. She was not in charge of the police bureau but was blamed for their poor performance. She had the streets/traffic dept. and she used it wisely. Also, the big 82nd overhaul is only possible

because she fought to get it back from the state who was responsible and of course, did not do even minimal maintenance.
