i have a friend in art school who has a classmate who keeps using AI art to complete her assignments, and my friend had to inform the professor about it because he couldn't tell apparently

That's going to go poorly for someone, and at this point I can only hope it's them.

the thing about AI art is that it's extremely bad at something that even the worst of human artists can accomplish easily, which is: making specified adjustments to an existing piece of work

yeah that's a thing

you can take the shittiest human artist in the world and tell them "add some trees over here" and they can do it

but it's becoming much better at the initial step of making art

AI art generators can't do that without drawing a whole new image

and that seems to me like the kind of thing you're gonna have some real problems with in art school if you're relying exclusively on AI art

if the prof tells you to fix the lighting or perspective on a piece, what are you gonna do?

I don’t know if it was shared on Plurk, but I remember reading a story about a film studio giro by AI “artists” for like concept art and it was the same problem
