at first I thought this was a no-brainer but then my husband reminded me part of Spider-Man's strength is being around tall buildings all the time
so being in the middle of the ocean might be difficult for him
Oh, true, nothing to anchor webs to
spider-sense could avoid the iceberg?
I'd think his webbing could be used as a temporary patch for the hull breach, though.
No if the ship made impact. I agree with the above and that couldve made a difference in the number of lives saved.
agreed that his webbing could temporarily patch the hull. Even if it wasn't enough to limp to NYC, it probably could've kept her afloat for an extra hour-ish until Carpathia arrived
(Titanic fully sunk at 2:20 am, Carpathia arrived on the scene at 3:30 am)
now i'm imagining what edwardian spider-man would look like
I don't think he could have prevented the sinking, practically speaking. Like yes, in theory if he could get down below decks and patch up enough of the watertight compartments (the number of which might vary depending on how much water was already in) then it might have gotten safely to port...
I just doubt that he'd be able to get down there in time to make an appreciable difference in the sinking. Maybe delay it, so that yeah a rescue ship could arrive
But once other thing I think he could have done was lash the lifeboats together for stability, so that they could get more people on them.
That's what I would do if I was a Spider-person.
now if modern Peter Parker who knows what happens ahead of time found himself on the titanic, HE could prevent the sinking because he could use his webs to make the titanic hit the iceberg head on (which would have saved it, because it would've damaged at most 2 watertight compartments)

JJ would have a field day
Jacob Joseph Jameson, grandfather of J. Jonah Jameson (still played by JK Simmons)
he could have saved a lot of people but not the ship itself
I think there's a second issue that might sound trite, but... if Spider-Man is on the ship, Peter Parker is in the ship's log somewhere. So, his superhero identity is in danger.
unless he's time traveling
also to that point, I don't think Peter Parker would have been able to afford anything above 3rd class, whereas Spider-Man, with sticky feets and webs, can be seen all over the ship
the rich people and the crew wouldn't even start to consider that the spider man was one of the poors if they saw him outside of steerage
