The third annual unofficial craft exchange.
cross-stitch is paint-by-numbers + tangles, I recommend it to anyone who can hunch over a tiny thing for a lot of time.
(and I do mean a lot - the ship one there is about 40 hours, the X-Files one around 15-20)
I LOVE that X-Files cross-stitch. It's on my wall over the piano.
I have two IRL friends who xstitch, it's fun to swap pieces around.
Wow, these are nice! :3 I really should get into it. Seems like it'd be the same sort of satisfying as doing a good puzzle, for me.
(except you actually keep the thing you make at the end)
I still owe Hats a present from the time I got overambitious with a new craft - she got a small gift from me but there's a bigger one in a drawer in the craft cabinet in my living room more than half finished, that I am GOING to finish one of these days because it's gorgeous.
(this is why we don't try new crafts for swaps/deadlines, self)
siderealtime Yes! Every time I do a puzzle, my brain goes 'we could be doing a cross-stitch instead, c'moooon.'
And if you have low-key hoarding tendencies, a cross-stitch obsession can still be limited to a tote or two. I have a goal of owning every color DMC currently makes, and I'm very nearly there, and that still only occupies about a cubic foot.
Most of my hoard is patterns.
and my cross stitch pattern hoard is digital because I like being able to easily magnify it on my phone or computer screen
The sailing ship is the first one I ever finished.
And the two Rebel symbols became a pair of Mickey ears for Disneyland.
Starry Night there took me and my friend over 200 hours.
that is so nice to know, too! (cause yes, I do have some hoarding tendencies I try to beat back with a stick XD )
omg the starry night o_o!
I own too many Taylor and Cromwell patterns, my cross stitch queue is long
TheHats: those are spectacular, especially the ships
BUMP EVERYONE GET ON THE CRAFT BUS
SOMEONE GONNA GET A CROSSSTITCH
idc if you want to make pressed leaf placemats, draw TLV character stick figures in crayon, or repaint thrift-shop salt and pepper shakers as Iris and the Admiral, GET IN HERE.
Everybody deserves to make a thing and then see someone else politely lose their shit about that thing.
