I'm reading The World We Make, and it's not as good as The City We Became for a few reasons, but I'm realizing my main gripe is the most "NYC inside baseball" thing. [light spoilers]
The plot hangs in part on a mayoral race, but so far, the current mayor hasn't been mentioned once
like everyone is oddly worried that this very Trumpy Republican guy is a real threat but NK, even with R'lyeh's blessing, not enough people here realistically care about that -- it's always a referendum on the guy in office now
(side note, can't wait to vote Eric Adams out!!!)
also I do know we've had Republican mayors in the past but that was back when they had a veneer of sanity
