quintenbeck - me tooooo. They're only just emerging on my street. These photographs are from the sunnier side - they're still underground on the shadier side, where I live. It's so cool how tiny differences like that effect them!

We only get the orange bodied ones here nowadays. Pic from a few years back.

Used to see the green ones more often as a kid but haven't seen them for years now.

I do not mind listening to them sing the song of their people as long as we do not come into physical contact.

spazztichero - there's plenty to go around even if humans do get in on the action! I gotta say though. Given malort's reputation that might be something of a waste of a good cicada...

transilience - I always think the giant eyes make them look kind of surprised to be above ground. (Anthromorphizing, obviously, but just a little! For fun!)
