it's a 500 page pdf but that's mostly bc you can only fit like two screenshots per page in here.
man. it's just an interesting look at how what a movie is trying to say might be differnet than what the main protaganists are like SAYING to the camera. you know.
OP like hang on. cinemetography like that doesn't happen by ACCIDENT. so what is this thing actually SAYING.
it's just really digging into trilogy of movies that were very carefully crafted and dissecting all the layers that the movie put up - perhaps to get an anti-military message past the US military funding. you know. idk.
obsessed with optimus prime the facist and megatron the mother figure. obsessed with . idk. everything. i feel my brain Expanding as this fucking essay teaches me how to understand how cinemetography frames things, and what that could mean, and how visual themes can portray one thing while the script is saying another.
i like dissecting the layers. it's been an interesting ride.
mintttea: I HOPE YOU ENJOY!!!! it's genuinely been quite a delight to go through. i'm obsessed.
i've never even seen the movies LMAO but.
idk something about someone who clearly knows their shit about movie analysis and clearly loves the movies who is advocating for a crew who also clearly loved what they were building is. it's been a fun read.
i love analysis, i look forward to it
making me think i should relisten to the linkin park album that came out around this time too (a thousand suns).... as a kid i didn't really care or Parse musical themes re politics or whatever but. linkin park concept album criticizing nuclear warfare huh. i should give it a listen again
obsessed tangentially with something hte essay mentioned - or someone in the essay mentioned - that the song they use from this album in the third movie (iridescent) is preceded by a track that repeats this in a more and more robotic voice is. SO interesting.
oh the. the thing didn't paste bc i was too quick lol
ANYWAY it's as much of an analysis about a movie as it is about the political landscape of 2012 and it's so much. but it's so good. i definitely am so glad i read it. my god.
also i havent even read this yet
but i wanted to mention: like. conceptually. the idea of "kind of fascist optimus" immediately clicks to me
bc after i reread that really good transformers fic, i started canvasing for fic and like
i noticed very quickly how there were several canons. one with like, working class optimus. one with middle class. and then a bunch with a kind of fascist sounding optimus that i didnt particularly even want to click on
so like, with my very narrow knowledge of tf, thats like. the baseline im going in with.
Depth??? In MY bayformers??? I'll have to give it a read
I have been very normal about it
its been fun to read at least in terms of "nothing is created in a vacuum" and "sometimes to understand something you need to look just a bit beyond the face value layer"
i feel like i've learned something
