Urrrgh one of our cats apparently is experiencing liver failure. he's been acting relatively normal and he's not, like, jaundiced, but he's lost a lot of weight and we're having a hell of a time getting him to eat, which is what the vet says we need to do

he'll eat treats, he'll eat the dog's food, but he doesn't want to eat the actual cat food we have

it's making me all the more anxious BECAUSE he's acting so damn normal otherwise

i know 11 is far from young for a cat but still, christ

he's been through a lot, they had to do surgery on his urethra a long time back because somehow he's genetically predisposed to kidney stones, when he first came to us as a kitten his paw had been fucked up by a fanbelt or something and they weren't even sure he'd keep it, but he's pulled through it all up to now

when he came back from the vet (where they gave him fluids and such) he was eating again, but now he's tapered off again

fucking hell, we JUST lost our oldest one, and we already KNEW he was old and nearing the end, this is out of the fucking blue

my mom got him some different food and he ate it like a man starving so that's hopeful. we're trying different stuff and hoping it'll work
