So, in Minnesota, at least in our part of MN, the prom begins with the Grand March. The couples enter one by one, announced by the principal, and there is this audience of parents, grandparents, most of the community there to cheer and take pictures. When I taught here in Oregon and was Jr. class advisor, I told them about the Grand March and they wanted to

do it rather than cater some hotel/cafe in Stayton or Salem. all the seating was filled by folks excited to see their kids. It was a big hit, but it was much more work because had to hire catering, decorate the gym, all the things done by contracting with hotel. So it was a one off as the next year's advisor was not into it.
