I want a story about a boy and a girl who go on an adventure and get close and talk a lot about how much they mean to each other
I feel like I've seen this in something and it ruled exactly as much as you think it would, but it's not coming to me. I'm subscribing to your newsletter
It’s an absurdly reductive statement about the infinite variations of human interaction
"oh god it's gonna be a har--no he's just dating one of the girls, huh. not even the most plot important one. huh."
The vibe between them was like the vibe between two guys in an action series who the fandom is gonna ship really hard because they're super close and emotionally invested in each other
Where a “ship” is often them occasionally looking at each other for two hundred episodes
In my bleach au Orihime and Ichigo start dating after the soul society arc and no one makes a huge deal about it
A story about two people who are attracted to each other but afraid to commit to anything isn’t inherently bad
Where they just kind of orbit around each other and flail and blush without doing anything until the ten years later epilogue where they are married and have two children
You know what it’s ESPECIALLY egregious when combined with how girl characters are often neutered by the plot from doing anything cool
If you’re a cool action girl then you can’t win fights or you’ll take attention away from the boys but you also can’t date any of the boys because then you’d be...I don’t know
Honestly Ichigo and Rukia's relationship was one of the things I still absolutely love to this day about Bleach
I similarly appreciate that about a lot of the student council members in later manga Kaguya-sama
A: "So did you tap that?"
B: "Bro I tapped that so many times I wrote Hamlet in morse code"
A: "Daaaaaaaaaaaamn!"

I totally dug it when Marco and Star were just friends and Star was Marco's wingman to get with Jackie and then.... the writers just couldn't help themselves to make the two main characters get together because one's a boy and the other a girl
