I feel this way about the JRR Tolkien's writing. His worlds and stories are cool but good god his actual writing is dry.
Yeah, I managed through the first of the Lord of the Rings books, but not even half if the second.
I very nearly gave up on the Hobbit in the first few pages where there was like half a page dedicated to telling me Thorin's bloodline.
id agree too honestly. but the images it evokes are fantastic, and its lead to some amazing derivative work
It is good to know I'm not alone in this. XD a YT channel I like is holding a voice acting competition so people are doing either short stories or snippets of longer ones (4-6 minutes tops) and a good number keep picking Lovecraft pieces to do.
There has been one, only one, that made it sound good, and only because he managed to truly sound like a man losing his mind to the horrors he'd experienced, but even then the story itself was boring.
I love the mythos, the worlds he makes, but listening to people drone on about dreams, the things in the sea, and losing their minds gets old after a bit.
The only one I ended up liking was the one about the fiddle player and that was... kinda it
