why can't it be like other countries where they either mail you a check or a bit of paper saying how much you owe
also a reminder to myself that i really need to get a new keyboard for my backup computer (where i did all my taxes because it has all my pwrds saved)
honestly my best guesses are 1. it bolsters the tax accounting industry, and 2. some people with low income will opt to not deal with doing taxes rather than figuring out they're owed a refund
i'm sure H&R Block would hate it if the IRS just.. told people what they owe rather than making them pay someone to figure it out
dude i've been saying this same thing for years. why do we have to file our taxes when the govt already has all the info we need and if we don't we then get in trouble? dude you have all the info RIGHT THERE just do it yourself and save everyone a ton of hardship!
the tax companies threw a fit when the government unrolled free filing, of course they would hate if we did it that way
anyway i really do need to find a different tax service next year, and maybe adjust my paychecks
bad enough i have to give the government money, i have to pay TT for the privilege of finding out how much
I guess the disparate nature of the states and relatively weak early federal government maybe made it impractical to have an IRS corps calculating everyone's taxes individually unless there was cause to suspect a problem? idk
