The situation is that the country had complete opposite opinions on the war. Some were for it and some were against it.

The ones that were against it were mainly college students because they were being drafted the the military even though they didnt want to.

This resulted in some pretty violent protest. people were burning their draft cards which was illegal. Everyday on the new you would see

police beating on these protesters.
