wow, it's january!!

and i am doing things this month. i have committed to trying to do more things, i.e. challenging myself to leave the house.

i saw interstellar on thursday, a movie i'd never seen, since a local theater is doing a sci-fi revival thing for the month.

it has the typical nolan problem of actually being two movies jammed together in a way that disrupts the pacing of the resulting extremely long movie, but i still liked it.

i have also embarked on a january purge project to rid my tiny apartment of the things i no longer use.

leaving the house is getting harder every day

alternative: i will get some things out of the house.

i had to free feed her for a bit while i was on vacation and that plus the winter has turned her more round.

Anticipating a rerun of SF/BAL to be honest

i say this but i feel this is the year the 49ers fail to make it to the nfccg, simply because they're the best team in the conference and that's how the nfl works.

but yeah sf/bal is the easy pick.

my first time in a long while making the stock from scratch… usually i just hack it with a rotisserie from the grocery store.

pleased to announce a new pizza place has opened down the road:

they gave me a $3 off coupon because the pie was "misshapen" so this was a $5 pizza.

my friend asked me "are you excited for snow this weekend?" and i felt a bit bad but i decidedly am not.

i have to go to work and either brave the icy roads which people in this town cannot drive upon, wait for public transport in the cold after dark, or some wretched combination of the two.

the snow in portland is nice but only if you don't have to leave your house for a horrid service industry job.

i did, however, buy a bunch of groceries so hopefully i won't need to leave my apartment for any other reason.

lol nevermind i tested positive for COVID so i'm staying home anyway.

anyway highly recommend having a cat.

i've had a mandatory quarantine and then an ice storm hit on my first day "back"

and the roads are still icy!! why!!

i went for a walk and the sidewalks sre still ice, so it was a slippery experience, but i need groceries.

i saw a video of a guy who tried crawling his way through the street and kinda just slid... down the street

poor guy got separated from his bag uphill

that is what i'm worried about. i can take the bus though.

like, honestly, the 49ers were imo the best team in the nfc this year and should be in the super bowl but the way they've done this playoff run… extreme cruelty to the nfc north.

also note: this year's nfc was a fraudulent conference

me: god, i don't like the 2023 eagles-esque way the 49ers have been winning. that team was exposed and melted down spectacularly.
also me: on the other hand the eagles did beat the chiefs…

To be fair Detroit ended their season in the absolute most Detroit way possible

that's a common sentiment which i understand to some degree but also it's a little wild to me how much that flipped from even just last year, where there was a lot more narrative goodwill towards the "49ers on 3rd string rookie mr. irrelevant qb" plotline
