the whole season seemed utterly pointless.
so many stupid plot points
and severely wasted the talent they had in Ravonna, Sylvie, and B-15
i'm big time disappointed in all of it
music was great visuals were pretty
how supposedly OB and Victor didnt immediately see the problem with a finite solution to an infinite problem is stupid AF
how Loki in centuries didnt ask about the failsafe when it was on the speaker system yelling it at him while he's time slipping through the TVA was stupid AF
what was the point of dox???
Why was there suddenly only one chair in the citadel scene???
why did we go from stronger together to the typical marvel "grand sacrifice alone" nonsense
people are telling me the greatest love is someone who would sacrifice their life for a stranger, and I'm telling you as someone in a career focused around saving lives at the risk of your own that's nonsense brainwashing
just comes off as lazy fucking writing as it negates the need to try and write a satisfying ending for a character.
but of course marvel has to keep shit open for more movies/series so they refuse to actually just close up a story in a way that doesnt....lock loki alone in a tree for all eternity despite the multiverse somehow running just fucking fine without him in the tree prior to the multiversal war
and any other characters sidelined into cardboard cutouts of their previous selves from S1
honestly s2 ruined the citadel scenes in s1 for me as well, and the idiotic "we recorded all these scenes and only told tom about them so all the other actors were confused as shit" is like ??????
god i'd hate to work for you??
Ultimately, I found the season finale to be boring. Lots of flash color, and good music but boring.
The last ep in particular was a slog
Yeah i was fairly disappointed at how things were left and also felt characters were drastically underused
Then again at least some of those characters CAN be used again /smh
There were some great moments but it seemed very loosey goosey and not in a 'cute things mobi might say' way
basically all of this, you hit like damn near everything on the head, s2 is a shitshow, everyone was a cardboard cutout of themselves especially the ladies, all the writing was terrible insofar as dialogue, iinsofar as plot, insofar as making everyone stupid as fuck, insofar as here's all these plot points that actually never get resolved and don't matter
teased god of stories and instead got god of sitting, did not get at all weird with the branches like they should have, did not get at all weird with the timeslipping like they should have (you're really gonna tell me the citadel fight is the furthest back he went???), brad's tempad means nothing, brad and dox mean nothing, the phone was a joke
Nobody really got a chance to tell their story this time around. Which is ironic given the theme
don't really have a clear idea what loki did/is doing frankly besides let them do a neat visual trick, have no earthly clue what the tva is actually meant to be doing right now at all
the infinity problem that any viewer could've clocked the second you introduced the loom is infuriating, the season wanted to spend a lot more time on technobabble (that, lest we forget, was for nothing! went nowhere! we spent five and a half entire episodes on this bit of plot!) instead of interesting philosophy
I'm guessing they're monitoring for Kang variants but who knows
I think Loki is meant to be just a magical battery
Which... Why tf would the timelines die without the loom
and the rare bits of interesting philosophy that did come up just don't even really matter in the face of what actually happened, like-
episode 5 got me, it did, I admit it, I thought it was snappily written and like it belonged to something else entirely in quality, which just makes me so mad about everything else, and sylvie got to be a little more than completely flat when she took doctor loki collecting companions aside and explained that sometimes some choices don't feel like choices
There were some great moments!
like we could've gotten real deep in the nitty gritty questions of free will (loki saying "you can't just give everyone free will and walk away" is so ????? yes you can the fuck do you think free will IS-) and in choice and we kind of didn't in the end
bc guess what! this! I guess! was still all the plan of HWR!
What bothered me the most was Loki's whole deal was wanting friends and the solution was for him to isolate himself and somehow that's a good ending?
paved a road and loki (and only loki, sure, I guess, what happened to loki and sylvie doing it together) ended up walking down it. like he tried! lord knows he kind of sort of tried to do different shit but mr omnipotent set up all things and now loki's stuck in yggdrasil
Blah blah sacrifice sure but it rings a little hollow
And i don't get how this is somehow neither of the choices HWR gave him. Is this going to stop Kang? I'm guessing no
imagine having a whole character arc about realizing and admitting that you actually don't want to do terrible awful things at the drop of a hat and you desperately don't want to be alone and turns out this is a tragedy where there were no choices between this and oblivion of reality
Haha yes that's about where i am right now sob
scrubs face I don't understand how this doesn't end with loki and sylvie and mobius taking on the terrible burden together of, in a twisted snake eating a tail way, becoming actual time keepers
What kills me? He's not the only Loki. He's not even the only Loki at the end of time
I was expecting Kid Loki to shoulder him out of the way any second and be like "go see your brother"
WHERE MY OTHER LOKIS BE AT
They forgot about them it seems
we have kid loki someone still ig at the end of time??? what's he gonna do nab ravonna's tempad and boogy on over to the 199999 timeline which we are not calling 616 bc that's stupid?
god I'm so mad about how fucking flat they made ravonna and how stilted every bit of dialogue is in this whole season
She and Ms minutes went off the rails like what was even their plan anymore
s1 ravonna and mobius give me so many fucking feelings and they make me actually feel the complexity of trusted friends for a long fucking time betraying each other gugu and owen are like AS good as owen and tom bouncing off each other's energy on screen
they finally catch up with one another and boy I sure feel fuckin nothing and the whole. hhhhhhhhh the whole the WHOLE thing with timely is SO hamfisted there's really just NO REASON for his character to even EXIST and I'm sitting there screaming you both want to take him to the tva to fix things, deal with your interpersonal shit later
but the itnerpersonal shit is dispatched with in short order and it's so stilted and so blandly written I just feel noooooothing
at least that moment with ravonna and sylvie there was something good to build off of there and that's iiiiiit
also, I'm gonna say it, the way this season was constructed, I didn't see any reason to care about the branches we so desperately wanted to save
the temporal loom was a terrible plot device to introduce. it reduces the impact of everything. it also doesn't make any sense. we've already established that these are branches of the sacred timeline, and you're telling me the branches come before being part of the sacred timeline, and you're a fucking idiot who didn't watch s1
but like, I get the basic idea that they're full of people who deserve to still exist and not die for the crime of something changing they had not control over. sure. okay. I get that.
but dox bombed the branches, we had a breakdown about ~all those people~ who died, and ob makes the point of saying well it helped with the loom overload for a little bit but that all those branches started growing back immediately
why do i care about them then, if there are infinite branches and the chances of the pruned timelines coming back exactly the same are, given infinite diversity in infinite combinations, not zero by any means, then why do i care
why do we care collectively, what's the point, who cares
it reduces the impact of sylvie yelling at mobius to go down and look. why should he? what's the point? what would that change for him? given he's one of the people working to try and save all the variant timelines, actually it wouldn't change anything at all. and, also, what would looking at one branched timeline change?
slams hands on my desk repeatedly the text keeps treating all these branched timelines like they are the tiimeline, if that makes any sense. yes we know our mobius is a variant and thus his tiimeline woulda got pruned. we see a branch where he's don the jetski salesman. and maybe people across timelines do like variations on a theme you know?
but there's also a timeline out there where he's a runway model or a little plastic talking cowboy. there's a timeline where he doesn't have kids. there's a timeline where he's still got a wife. there's a timeline where he meets a loki variant and they kill each other. there's a timeline he's president, there's a timeline he dies when he's a baby, just-
it really feels like the show was saying 'this is who he is' and I'm like that's one version of infinite versions of who a variant of him is. maybe our mobius likes jetskis bc he's a successful fbi profiler and takes holidays to the beach
my man likes josta and there was not a single josta can in all of s2 does it make me irrationally mad maybe just a little sure but you're gonna show us a 2022 mobius when you so EASILY could've shown us a mid 90s mobius
you tease verity fucking willis and it means nothing, you don't do anything with it, you don't go anywhere with it, it's just an easter egg
why didn't we get weird with 1960s alcatraz, it's a branched timeline, maybe there are flying cars, maybe the sky's fucking purple, maybe aliens are already well integrated into society, just
also you put dr willis in 2012 new york and didn't do anything with THAT like hey I'm sorry you know that's a very specific year and place to the mcu
we arguably ruined variant ob's entire life for uhhhhh nothing, but don't worry about it none of that ever actually happened
why didn't we meet more variants why weren't we allowed to GET WEIRD WITH IT it's the FUCKING MULTIVERSE in your WEIRD TIME TRAVEL SHOW
but sure now mobius sees a variant of himself and is having a bit of an existential crisis and he's unmoored cool it's fine loki just gets to watch him stand there and ~let time pass~ and, I don't know, it's such a melancholic ending bc he is truly a nowhere man now
and sylvie's the happiest she's ever been
which is such a weird emotional disconnect to the scene, the "well cool see you around! /SHRUG! /ollies out"
I do need fics upon fics upon fics of sylvie and mobius catching up with each other to just peruse all these timelines and try stuff for the first time and get closer bonding over their feelings about loki. also if mobius ever wanted to remember his actual pruned life she could do that for him. instead of staring at what could have been.
b15 asking after him was good but then just not like. connecting with that. very frustrating. ask him if he's scared, and then walk away, don't say "yeah me too" or "so was I but I'm okay", just walk the fuck away okay cool it's not like she's got experience grappling with this sort of thing emotionally
Fwiw i think the show was trying to imply that was Mob's timeline and that Loki was pulled to the specific ones of the variant friends he wanted to find
Which yeah makes little sense since those all would have been pruned and reasonably there's no guarantee they'd be exactly the same when they regrew
I have fix it comics in the process
But my motivation is so low, because I just like so annoyed
AND ALSO yeah I was like "THATS WHAT FREE WILL IS" too, in that scene about giving free will and walking away
i was hoping how in ep 5 they addressed that loki's obsession with the TVA was actually still just his desire to feel belonging and wanted
that they'd actually not fuck the ending but then they fucked the ending
and not only did they fuck the ending, they RUINED the ending of the last season
pausing sylvie and then getting rid of her so the men could talk was seriously fucking awful
idk it seems only like the marvel bros who care nothing but about cgi and tag lines liked S2 especially the ending
because none of it fuckin made sense
so much shit that was there just to wink at the camera
like fuckin ob making the blatant snake eating its own tail comment, like come on
There's also always fixit rp
why did Sylvie just sort of watch Loki go out there and save the timelines, btw, when she was their biggest advocate
i feel like a lot of what the non-Tom actors did in the last few episodes was just stand around staring with their mouths open
whereas last season they were at least contributing
