it's been a long time since I used renpy for anything. they added a bunch of neat stuff since last time. apparently you can add backgrounds, music, and sprites on the fly now? not sure how useful this is to me because I am once again using an engine for not the thing it is meant for but it is what it is.
I like using twine, both for what it's meant for and what it's not meant for, but I wanted a gui hud for this project and it's easier to just use image layers in renpy than wrestle with dumb css. either engine, I will still have to mangle my writing into the printed format so this was the determining factor.
