the games got away with localizing it to "glub" because of text-only format, but with voice acting? The little guy's best served by just having a watery-sounding voice

lmao yes, exactly! Like, okay, this dude makes watery sounds (the game's localization was "drip" not "glub", whoops), actually having the voice actor say "drip" or punctuate with random noises doesn't have the same effect in English, it's just distracting.
