Who has Windows 11 these days and how is it? looking to get a new laptop and the majority are 11 now, not 10
latest #57
It. Fucking. Sucks. Ass.
I absolutely despise it with everything in me.
I have it on my work computer - didn't have a choice - and I constantly want to smash someone's head.

jantra: what's wrong with it?

I know there were complaints when it came out, not sure what they fixed and what they didn't

I have it x.x I bought a laptop the ad said it was 10, turned out to be 11

i'm a casual user and the main problem is that it overheats more easily, and it has annoying ad placements

there are ways to disable most of them but x.x

With laptops, you definitely have to watch the battery settings like a hawk. Sometimes it'll go to intelligent cooling, which will have it continue running while there's no fans, which is part of the overheating thing

I haven't had to deal with ads, but it's a pain to get a preferred layout sorted and I've yet to find a way for it to show the names of the icons; instead you have to hover over that, it'll give a preview of all the windows of that program, and you go through that to figure out which one you wanted

i don't like it

I've not hit many major concerns. do hate I can't right-click the Taskbar for "show the desktop"
they decided "fuck you if you want to choose how things work"
It's stupid little things. Like I can't NOT have the items on the taskbar combine.
....thats been a staple since they started having the combine option. And they decided fuck you, our way is better
the ads on the start menu. Bull. shit.

Demonia: isn't the grouped icons, hover I've to find your window the norm on 10? I have that currently and im fine with it
annakratos

wait they don't stack?
The grouped taskbar icons is fine .... IF YOU WANT IT THAT WAY.
For me as a developer? It is HELL.

Mine aren't stacked and squished down to just icons

yeah, I'm currently just icons, that doesn't bother me. I actually prefer it that way
You're missing the point though - it's just one example of things like that.
If you don't like something the exact way Microsoft has it set up for you, you can't change it.
There's tons of them.

There are some security concerns its system will bring up, say what the fix is, and when you click to go to it, that feature is either locked with no way to change it, or doesn't exist.

odd, I don't have ads on my start menu. I'll check again when I have the chance, but don't think I've got them

I disabled the ads and have a traditional taskbar setup

my new rig is windows 11. It's.... fine so far. I think part of my issues are simply growing pains from 10 as I'm used to certain task bar items being in one place and they're not. Not sure if there's a option to change that, but I don't mind it too much

i just don't like the way it's set up visually. i should get around to resetting my taskbar

I haven't touched it myself, but the impression I've gotten from other people is along the lines of "could be worse, it could be 8"

There is a program you can use to go back to an older Taskbar menu

Grouped taskbar icons with no labels is a pain, and I haven't found a way to fix it. The security and reporting issues... there are ways to fix the later, but they are buried deep.

I haven't run into overheating issues, but then, I'm running an Asus Tuff gaming rig and going relatively easy on it.

And the ads haven't come up for me (yet) either. It may be a home vs. pro version thing?

(I also have a cooling pad, which may be helping with heating.)

I block that shit on my browsers, I pay for services to support them and shut off ads, if the computer itself joins in? I'm driving back to Washington State to pee on microsoft

glad I moved over when windows 10 kept corrupting on me and I saw what a shit-show 11 was going to be, nothing linux has confused me with has been a fraction as enraging as ads on my OS would be and it's all been correctable with some web-searching

I'm old and cranky, if y'all are fine with the ads that's cool, windows is pretty easy to work with and everything runs on it, I definitely get the appeal, you do you

I still might reinstall it as a secondary OS just so I can run some things that just refuse to play nice with linux tbh, it just won't ever be my daily driver os again

nah honestly besides compatibility and simplicity, there's kind of no real reason to use windows, there are a bunch of really solid linux GUIs with minimal necessary knowledge

I'm sure the ads are prob annoying but I'm also in marketing so like. I feel like I can't make ads a reason I don't get something unless they're super poorly implemented

...I can't imagine the ads in Win11 are more intrusive than the ones on Twitch.
