Quick hit thoughts: This is what a sequel should be. It's familiar but there are so many differences and experiences that make the world richer.
The new mechanics take a little getting used to and some are a bit wonky at times, but it's a lot of fun.
And I'm loving the voice acting even more this time around. Guess that happens when you get Matt Mercer and Cherami Leigh in your cast, but even the returning folks are doing good work.
But I'm pretty happy with the game and absolutely loving it so far.
And now... SPOILER STUFF.
Turn back now if you don't want some gameplay and minor story spoilers!
I didn't dislike Teba by any stretch, but Tulin's a huge upgrade. Love his character and the dynamic with "big brother Link" is fun.
The Gleeok takes the "...oh no" factor of Guardians and Lynels from the first game and cranks it up to an eleven. I've only aggroed one once and I barely lived to talk about it.
And I don't think anyone who complained about lack of enemy variety is going to have much to take issue with here.
My biggest issue so far is that Kass is just... completely MIA.
His wife? There. His children? There. His children referencing their father? Yep.
But no mention of where Hot Bird Dad is, and it's weird.
But it's a small quibble.
And, being slightly thirsty here, but...this game continues the trend of just about everyone in Hyrule being hot.
And the Zonai might be right up there with the Zora in terms of most attractive people in Hyrule.
Also, it's weird that we hear almost no references to key things from BotW.
I accept that the kingdom probably made clearing up the Guardian remains a priority, for peace of mind as well as to take care of any lingering threats.
And sure, Zelda mentions that Vah Ruta stopped working at the end of Breath of the Wild.
But, uh... where did they all go?
Also it's odd that two out of the three [redacted] I've seen so far have stories that seemingly take pains to avoid mentioning the Champions.
It's weird as hell that Tulin has a power and everyone's like... "Oh, you're the first Rito who can do this!"
I guess that's about it for now. Probably gonna play a little more and take advantage of what's left of my "staycation".
