like legitimately the boy snuck into the restricted section at his school to do some research and read something out loud to try to understand it and whoops, pact
and terrible fucking forbidden knowledge everywhere that No One can know, No One can know he knows, he has to keep it hidden from all forever, which might not be terrible except for the fact that the way he got some of it was from a colleague of the same patron that left it on his bed the night before he was greusomely murdered
and everything he reads about other warlocks like him is that they all go insane and/or die horrible, horrible deaths
he would complain A Lot if another book of forbidden knowledge showed up
(but he would still read it)
the real problem is he wants to sever the Pact, bit he doesn't know if that's possible, but also, he's all about life's biggest mysteries and none is bigger than the Great Old Ones, so at the same time, this is fantastic first hand research that can't be beaten
it's damned if you do, damned if you don't
and I'm still terrified of whatever spazzy is planning that had two patron warn of a possible (probable?) death for him. it might have been the chair with the cobra, but I also feel like apazzy knew the party wouldn't let him do that so
I sweat to god if he has to touch another obelisk, die, and come back with another chunk of his soul gone, he's going to go ballistic bc he still hasn't even figured out what it means for him to have less than 100% of his soul
that sounds like so much fun
he's a very smart man but he's the dumbest boy and his perpetual state is panic lol
For a split second I thought you were talking about me
haha no, Nick my fire genasi
So far it's gone amazing. I didn't know if someone would throw themselves into the fire chair just to possibly glean knowledge. That tower went far less eventful than I even expected!
I thought the rug would paranoid you guys for longer. I didn't know if you'd activate the two horrid abomination golem things that hate each other by making they look at each other. I didn't know if you'd activate the mirror or how the circle and statue would go.
Though floor two was one bad roll away from a party wipe and I was happily surprised Poachers made their save.
"Int save to not have the person with a spell to do 6d10 to the entire party consider them enemies attacking."
What would Nick do if he had been the first through the spell and failed? "Nick, you turn around becuase you have the distinct feeling your friends didn't keep up. When you look back you see a group of four very dangerous warlocks coming to kill you. Roll initiative. You innately know a bit of what they are capable of, what do you do?"
him??? he'd probably panic, flail about, bitch over how the patrons said he was going to die but the party waived him off, this is their fault, throw a fireball, and try to gtfo. If he somehow made it out, thunder step away from the giant skeleton outside, and try to hide in the woods where they camped the night before
and wait for his asshole friends to show up
to be fair, we almost made the statues face each other
I'm really curious what the cobra actually does
the party won't let Nick look at it
meanies
Since I'm pretty sure they're not letting you: You make a saving through. If you fail you take a bunch of psychic damage, likely kill a level 1 character amount. If you succeed you take a moderate amount of pyschic damage They will answer truthfully if they could possible know it and form group consensus opinions on what they don't know for sure.
and can ask one question to the collective unconcious of everyone who ever died to this statue.
It's a lot of damage to fail though. At level 10 you'd be a viking there.
