2/10, sunshine & songbird
And 3/10 which isn't live yet anywhere else
caterpillar & poppy
oh plurk you are you mean the way you compress things sometimes
anyway my hope is to get 4 or 5 of these done this week, that way I can still do this challenge even as we're moving and I'm maybe painting a mural!
Ochrona I'm having so much fun with this challenge it's absurd
the prompt list is basically three other illustrators looking me directly in the eyes and saying "what if you painted exactly what you wanted for an entire month"
apron frog??? daisy raincoat?? BADGER RADISH??? of course I want to paint those things!!!!!!
oh this is so sweet and soothing to look at! beautiful work c:
starfaring ah thank you so much!! I can't wait to paint more
Good luck! Thank you for sharing c:
omg hello fellow gouache artist...these are
adorable and your work is beautiful!
do you have an instagram i might follow you at?
thank you!
Tell me about your work!!! I love to talk about art so muchhhhh
Omg wait are you also a kidlit artist?? HECK YEAH
YEAH I AM! im so happy to find another one in this hobby omg...basically i like to paint whimsical lil animals in sweaters...
There are a few of us it's really cool!!! Your work is SO cute, I love the way you render critters oh my goodness
thank you so much! you as well, and i love how your color palettes so much
color is my one true love (this is my personal account haha)!! truly I have way too many paints. also congrats on having a book out!!!!
omg thank you! it's self published but it was still a huge undertaking and im super proud of it
you should be it looks adorable!!! I'm so curious about the self-publishing process, too—how did you find it??
so i found it pretty frustrating initially because there's so much info out there to sift through, BUT i ended up finding a really great
youtube channel specifically about self publishing children's books that had all the info you could possibly need. like, i cannot recommend her channel enough
i also joined the low tier of her patreon while i was in the process and she'll answer pretty much any question you have
ooooh thank you!! I'll have to look into this. I'm looking to get an agent and get into traditional publishing but self-publishing is SO useful too!
im looking for an agent right now as well! good luck to you! and if you have any questions about self publishing feel free to message me. im not an expert but i did go through the process so i may be able to answer them!
I love how there's two little guys in each of them
spudbud haha I was noticing that too..... it's us
muttonchops I will super do that, thank you for sharing your expertise!! Same goes for me, my door is open if you want to chat gouache or agent woes or anything else
is this... digital? what program? it's
so cute! you're really talented!
Nightsail this is all traditional work! traditional gouache on hot press watercolor paper!
just gonna fansqueal here a bit. I love it.
I've been meaning to film some process vids for painting stuff like this, hopefully once I've got a bigger studio space that will be easier to do!
ahhhh thank you
I'm a full-time, working artist and that kind of thing is just oh man it is the thing that keeps me going
day 4: frog & apron
I think their little bubbles look like aprons, haha--but this is also in honor of the herald of spring I grew up with, the frog chorus!
Out in the Pacific Northwest live a frog called the pacific tree (or chorus) frog and while they're tiny, they gather and greet the spring by singing together to attract mates. Their songs can be heard for MILES
plurk is really compressing the crap out of these so I think at the end of the month I'll collect them all in a single post on tumblr and link back here
other than the compression though I am SO happy with this piece, it was a challenge on multiple levels. I masked off some shapes with tape!! I simplified WAYYYY past what I would normally let myself do for the sake of the vibes!! it actually looks illustrative!! wow. there are things I'd do differently but hell, that's art, babeyyyy
oh that's so cute! I love the ones peeking over the reeds
Ah thanks!! I'm beyond excited to post this one, I get to post it tomorrow on my socials
so cuuuute omg.
prompt 5/10: daisy & raincoat!
this piece was SO MUCH FUN, I have historically been afraid of drawing kids but it turns out when you simplify it's really easy and I am so invested in this little boy and his cute pink raincoat
I feel like I might paint this same kid for the next prompt... I need more consistent characters in my portfolio anyway :|a
THAT's....... so cute............... maybe that is his name
ahh happy to see this pop up on my TL again! Still adorable
starfaring thank you thank you!!! we're halfway through the challenge, just 5 pieces left and WOW I cannot wait, the remaining prompts are so cute.
i am very excited for the future c:
good luck with the other pieces!
prompt 6: hedgehog & umbrella
Guess I can't stop putting frogs in stuff!
cuuuute
the tiny frogs just make it even better!
pacific chorus frogs are so small ;;;; it's so cute
posting this one early, too: 7/ 10 blooming & ladybug
trying something new where I link it from tumblr because I think plurk won't eat it so much!
and I am correct, I will have to link them all at the end of the challenge
prompt 8/10 early: bunny & clover!
one of my favorite ones tbh..... the bunny was so cute and fun to paint ahhhhh
I just think the composition & shape language read really well
awwh! love these new ones. the hedgehogs are my fave in this batch c:
the hedges were SO FUN to paint omg. hedges were one of the first things I was ever really proud of painting and it was great to revisit
EXCUSE ME???????
Today on tumblr??????????
prompt 9/10: garden & rainbow, which somehow got today on tumblr'd, which is wild
and,
prompt 10/10, badger & radish, and that's the challenge!!! wild
I love the badger
