Been paralyzed on a thing for literal weeks, discovered I still had one or two of my ADHD pills from like 7 years ago buried in my bathroom, and tried one. Suddenly I'm Doing A Thing.
Still fucking works and I have health insurance again, I just need to confront the agony that is Navigating The System
Fingers crossed it's not too hard to find one
I don't even know if this insurance forces you to get referrals from a PCP or if I can search for one myself or what, even the THOUGHT of trying to executive function my way through this is exhausting.
ugh oh man, good luck. navigating this shit is such a nightmare
Right?
Ugh, that's rough. Good luck, I hope you can find a decent one without too much of a battle.
if you need any assistance, I'm pretty decent at digging up resources ;; hopefully it's not needed and it just goes easy
Oh, oof, good luck! I hope that medicine wasn't expired, though... it sounded so old!!
muteswans: thankfully, medicine expiry with the exception of a few specific formulae doesn't go bad in the same way as other things. at most it'll lose efficacy, sometimes to the point of being useless, but it sounds like that was not the case
That's good to hear! Yeah, I know they usually set the date earlier than that, but I've also had certain family members get sick from expired medicine, while others are fine, so I'm wary of it anyway!
I BELIEVE IN YOU and if you need any moral support etc. I am here
Ty y'all
I couldn't have been any LESS productive even if it did make me sick, so worth the risk TBH
Definitely haven't slept yet, it's super worn off by now but I'll 1000% lose any momentum if I do that
May beg for help figuring shit out if any of y'all have the same insurance, but we shall see
Don't think our insurances would be a match (we're in different states, I think? and mine's technically state insurance since I work for a university), but I appreciate you reaching out, friend. :<
I def don't have the same insurance, but I did used to sell it and largely the way they work hasn't changed since 2016
Mine's just United Healthcare through the Marketplace
Preeeeetty sure it doesn't have any weird state specific stuff?
UHC tends to be pretty similar in every state, yeah
the biggest difference is if you have a PPO or a HMO
or, well, a couple other options but PPO/HMO and sometimes HSA are the most common types
I can't even begin to remember TBH, I'd have to look for it
ye, there's no rush rn, I need to sleep anyway XD
I used to have UHC but it was through my job, so I can't really detail specifics about plan details, BUT.
the nice thing about UHC is they are super, super nice and helpful, and if you call and say "here's my address I need a mental health professional capable of prescribing medication," they will give you a list of folks currently flagged as accepting new patients. the flags aren't always accurate but it's a start.
theoretically all insurance companies should do this, but I have personal experience with UHC being very friendly about it
I'll have to see if they can do it by chat too
Looks like the practice I use only accepts welfare insurances...
Like Medicaid and Medicare? That's rough, I've heard they're a pain to work with from the practice's side
Yeah. Home State's medical assistance, Traditional Medicare, and Blue Cross Care First only.
I guess they specialize because those are a pain to navigate. The paper pushers need to know what they're doing.
God EVERYTHING feels like that Chad Gadya song when I have to executive function at it
Me like "So I have to try and remember a password to access a site to find my insurance information to provide to an automated phone tree to MAYBE be able to speak to a human agent who MIGHT be able to give me referrals that MIGHT be close enough to get to that MIGHT be willing to take new patients that MIGHT be able to help me. And I might have to go on a
whole side quest chain that may or may not be completeable to figure out how to obtain previous psychiatric records for them to be able to diagnose me and know what was already tried like 15 years ago before I gave up on all of this as too difficult."
Still haven't slept yet, probably just gonna wait until bedtime now that I finished that project and the reading
I am INTENSELY unsure on the status of this sidequest, because it took finding that old ass bottle of meds I never threw out to remember a name at all, and a LOT of digging through my email to figure out an address to connect that name to, and more digging in Google to find the business' website, and that doctor isn't even listed in the fucking group anymore
Do they have his old records? Did he take them with him? Do they have any fucking idea where he went? Is there literally any chance whatsoever I'll be able to find him again to get whatever records of mine he had like 10 years ago? Who knows??
He might not even HAVE shit that old anymore
can you see if your pcp will prescribe it for you? that's how i get mine
otherwise if you have a ppo you should be able to go to anyone w/o a referral BUT you'll get bigger discounts if you go in network, if you have an hmo on a lot of specialist stuff you need to get a referral & it'll have to be in network
if you're not sure what plan you have you can look at your card and it'll tell you what kind of insurance it is & like was said above you can always just call and they'll help you out
It's been years since I've been to a PCP so I haven't actually seen the one they just randomly decided to assign to me, but that's possible?
navigating the medical system is just gross and i hate it so i sympathize
It's so bad
IDEK if I've actually gotten a physical card from them
it depends on the doctor ofc but like i know some of them really just require a physical to prescribe
Yeah =S ADHD meds are just a controlled substance that I think might still be in a shortage, IDK
Can you fuckin imagine tho....... maybe I'd be able to RP consistently again...................
I'm not sure about the shortage, but I know I was able to get an Adderall fill same day.
I know there was one a while ago, I just haven't kept tabs on it
Ahhh, the pharmacy gave me brand name, so that might have made it easier to fill.
