So. In a similar vein as my other Plurk. Plurk has been a place for me to learn things. In RL I tend to be with people who are similar to me just by circumstances (for example while I'm open to meeting new people it's just time constraints that's preventing me). Anyway, in RL I deadnamed someone recently without intending to but I still did.

This person was taken aback understandably, but thankfully knew I'm "newish" so very tersely BUT politely told me new name.

I thought at first that the customer data wasn't updated to reflect this... Either way that is still neglect on our part. I apologised for deadnaming and asked which pronouns. Long story short, delighted customer cos apparently that doesn't happen to them EVER.

And turns out it wasn't our fault. They haven't been back for 4 years, pre-transition. But now we've got a returning and hopefully loyal client.

I seriously can say I wouldn't have known this if not for the education of Plurk and Plurkies cos I really hang around boring vanilla crowd. And I've passed on that "knowledge" to my team.

I unfortunately don't live in a.... Let's say, progressive part of town. They've been telling me how their own family have insisted on deadnaming them. :-( Although it is changing with younger and newer generation moving to this part of town (cheaper real estate) and being more accepting. Hopefully in a few years things will be different.
