Now that I am older and I have moved away from living in Metro Manila, I have less tolerance of the “hahabol ako” and “dadaan ako” mindset.
I fully subscribed to it when I was still living and working in Metro Manila with the traffic and always needing extra income plus having a young child to attend to. Personal time was a rare commodity.
But with a slower pace, a farther place and a different lens having lived through a pandemic, I appreciate and choose now to spend time instead with the “sasadyain kita” and “gagawan ko ng paraan” people.
Which also means that the rare times I am in Manila and I see you, that means ikaw ang sinasadya ko talaga at hindi ang salted garlic squid, lechon macau, aniseed beef tendon claypot rice at fried beancurd skin with shiitake mushrooms.
