but the oven has an electronic starter

After some brainstorming with Mom, I made the pizzas on the stovetop, in skillets

they turned out really well

And this is not a survival thing to worry about, because as cold as it is tonight, and as cold as it's supposed to continue being, the gas lines are working, the furnace is trucking away, and the water lines are fine and not frozen

improvise. adapt. overcome!

And Mom and I thought it through, and because we have those big counter top electric roasters that can be ovens! it's in their manual

we can still make all the food we had planned for till Tuesday, bc it's supposed to be safer to venture out by then

I... don't know if I want to try cookies in the roaster ovens tho

maybe? Maybe worth trying?

Maybe just stick with no bake drop cookies. Cakes? in the ovens???

onikins - it really, really does. We can't make any calls for the next few days to even get in the queue to get it looked at, and baking is such a big part of the festitivities and such a good way to warm the common rooms up!

Family nearby (or a really generous neighbor?) who will let you cop their oven for like an hour? 😭

We can make the food we had planned work with the roaster ovens though, which is a relief. We've baked with them before, even! we did potatoes and - - - I forget which casserole it was, maybe green bean?

That helps! But I'm sure it is annoying as heck

I mean, we have a neighbor friend at the end of the block, we could probably ask her and she'd probably be delighted to be able to help, but it's so cold brrrr

Now that I am thinking about cookies more, when we replaced all our oven mitts bc I kept burning myself using them, bc they were too old -

the silicon and batting mitts mom bought... they're actually up to my elbows....

cookies are totally doable in the roaster ovens

and yeah, we did! We've got this interesting combo of snow, gusts of wind up to fifty miles an hour, and freezing cold going on

The windchill was negative thirty F at a few points today, and it's supposed to be negative forty tomorrow

Currently the Weather Service expects to be able to lift the actual winter storm warning by Sunday, but uh. the advisory bodies are saying it probably won't be really safe to move around until maybe Monday

It's like, all over the country, the weather said eff your holiday plans 🤣

The snow didn't stick, because it wasn't that cold yet in that part of the day, but there was like... tiny ice pellets covering everything 🤷🏻‍♀️

UPDATE: Oh, right! I forgot to mention - Dad was able to replace the broken part the next day, because the folks at the appliance part store were open, even though it was so cold and Christmas eve, and it was a part they had in stock that was easy to swap out
