just got done with blood labs and it went well! they only had to poke me twice before they got a vein haha
that's such a win for me, I'm happy when that happens which I guess is kind of a weird reaction orz
but I have problem veins, I always tell the techs I've been told previously that my veins are deep and smal
my last bloodwork around 3 months ago was worst case scenario... they poked both arms 3 times, which is the max they're allowed, and then I had to come back about 4 days later so they could try again
luckily, that second time, they got a vein on the second poke. I also did drink waaay more water before the labs that day
it's lucky I don't really mind the needles, and I find it fascinating when my blood starts gushing into the vials, I always watch.
but I kinda hate med appointments in general and I really hate having to do either the 9 or 12 hour fasts, which I've had to do for all my previous bloodwork
so yeah, always stoked when I get a good lab tech... oh also I usually get double teamed by techs, they just take turns on me until someone hits a vein orz
today was pretty funny though, one of the techs who had been doing labs for about a year said they had only done "easy" veins, so was looking forward to the challenge
unfortunately, she didn't hit a a vein, the more experienced tech tried after her and got it.
so I told her if I had to come back in 3 months, she'd get another stab at me. I'm helpful like that.
ok!! time to get breakfast now!!!
"only had to poke me twice"
Asidian: that's a good outcome. also why are you here you'll get woozy
I, too, have problem veins. I’m glad they were able to do it relatively efficiently for you this time
my veins are like this too
i have a whole ROUTINE to do before i have to go get my blood drawn
1. eat a big meal and drink as much water as i can without making myself sick-- being super hydrated makes your blood less sluggish
2. have a hot bath (or shower if you have no bath, but bath is better) before you have to leave for the appt to make your veins expand nice and big [fatponydotgif]
3. bring as many layers as humanly possible with me to the appointment so i don't undo all the good work of the bath by getting cold before the blood draw waiting in the air conditioned office
when i do all that... it usually... goes ok...
