(I say "think" 'cause I've bounced around ideas before, but they never quite landed right....)
First, I want to canon update him. But through non-traditional means. I already ran this by Simcha, but basically what I'm aiming for is:
Vyng thinks he's from beginning of Season 6. As far as he knows, he's a Warmblood. What he doesn't realize is...he's actually from Season 9, and those memories have been suppressed
The reason he's been presenting as a Warmblood this whole time, is because he's a Darkblood whose body has contorted itself to fit into this false reality he's been living under
he's been gaslight gatekeep girlbossing HIMSELF....
He already has a history of dissociative amnesia, and it's been established that many memories from his "past life" aren't super clear for him in
He knows the broad strokes of it all, but he still gets certain details mixed up, some things are very fuzzy, and some stuff he just doesn't know. He is aware of all these things, but isn't particularly bothered by it
But yeah, updating him to Season 9 would be dropping some p. big bombshells on him, namely:
1. He does not have a bio dad
2. His mother was one of the few Wizards to survive the Exodus
3. He is the moon now
He'll also have a lot more context for things like: Where some of his martyr tendencies come from! Why he dislikes himself so much! How some of his earliest trauma manifested!
I think, ultimately, Vyng's character arc is one of self-acceptance and self-compassion. He tries so hard to distance himself from his past, because he feels like he needs to "let go". But it doesn't matter whether he gives up his name, his shapeshifting, his original world...
It's never going to be enough until he can actually accept himself as radically as he accepts everyone else
He's already cognizant of this in
and has actually been doing a lot of inner-work to get himself to a healthier place
So, at some point, I think it makes sense for him to be approached by Moon Presence. And the ensuing ritual/vision quest will end with his fast-forwarding to Season 9, gaining a new bloodtype, and maybe manifesting a new Omen too
I am glad 'destroy the false dad in ur mind' is something sansa can share with someone else
I wasn't sure when to have him update, and even considered leveraging the Draugr prompt from this month to "restore" his memories. But I think it makes sense for a Moon Relic trial to be, like....the final barrier. And once that barrier has been lifted, it unblocks the shit he's been suppressing for over a year now
Thinking he'll ultimately land on becoming something of a moon cleric who heals people. And he'll finally become more like the Gandalf figure he's always wanted to be
bitterends: Sansa and Vyng likely have a few things they can bond over, honestly, and I'm here for it
VERY hype to see this unfold!
hi5 characters with no biodads
thank youuuu! Gonna be thinking of ways to involve people with this stuff, too
Bonds with CR will be important for all these developments, since (according to the research he did with Orpheus back in January) relationships and other anchoring influences enable people to have better control over their Beasthood with enough time and practice
And if his Moon Relic results in the user taking some level of corruption into their body, then that would be a very handy skill to develop........
TroubledBlues: It might be neat for Billie to use his Lighting in a Bottle ability to pull a later memory from him at some point. and they're like "......how did this get in there" lmao
biodads. who needs 'em
she'll link him up to the sanctuary and also have her blood hound eat his corruption if he needs it
that is very kind of her!
still not 100% sure what the mechanics of the Moon Relic would be, and what the cost of using it is. But I imagine the moonstone in his chest would grow darker the more corruption accumulates in his body, and then lighter once it was purified or cleansed in somehow
I don't think it's something he would use right away, since he'd need time to acclimate to this whole-ass reality that popped out of Moon Presence's vision-quest jack-in-the-box
By then he'd be painfully aware of, how like....self-sacrifice without self-acceptance is often paired with Pride and a reluctance to own up to feelings contrary to how you think you "should" be feeling
in his case, him being like "no, I've put all my trauma behind me, everyday is like a vacation, I am never stressed"
"no, I don't miss shapeshifting, I just pretend to be animals for fun"
"also, I
never think about the way Eagle broke up with me, in fact I never think of him at all, because!!! he is a jerk anyway"
plagueheart: ty!! I may end up asking for people's ideas of, like.....what the actual relic should be?? But will also be chewing on all that in the meantime
excellent! i will lurk happily for developments
jackets: I'm absolutely down for that
it is still so on sight with Eagle
Michael at birds he sees in the sky: BITCH
Manabu like "my housemates are normal cursing at birds is normal"
oh this is all Very Normal. I love reading all this about your arc plans, Jansen. Vyng is a delightful mess
